"Performance" is that airport spotted cybertruck with the guts of the frunk showing? VIN was a dual motor and H-rated. Higher payload/towing numbers and more to insure than the "Standard" cybertruck.
feels like you’re on to an interesting point here, but say more

but no, that dual is NOT a ‘performance’ variant

the performance variant happens to have a third motor, and weigh a couple hundred pounds more - all else being equal (eg, with same wheel/tire package selected)

separately, the dealer will offer factory installed options that can add up to significant weight, which in turn effects remaining available payload etc calculations for that specific unit

I can't wait until Tesla finally releases the specs on the versions they will be selling in 2024.

Too many people still think it will have 500 miles of range for $69,000.

Come on launch event, let's clear this up.

It was disappointing that Musk brushed off battery/range concerns as being a non issue when they will be a very real issue for anyone towing/hauling with their CT.

He has repeatedly commented that they have to get the price down, which means there's a very good chance it's going to be rather expensive for the first couple of years of production.

Bulletproof glass wasn't promised. Super tough glass that could bounce off a large metal ball bearing (nothing like a bullet) was attempted to be shown but the glass failed the public demonstration.

For bulletproof, I can imagine the glass being a sandwich of 2 glass panes with ~1" polycarbonate in the middle. This would be crazy for the front windshield though and probably difficult to drive given the way the light would bend. And the center cameras inside the cabin looking through the "glass"? Not sure what would happen there.

Anyway, I generally don't feel the need for serious tank level safety so I'm not going to worry about it. Well, unless the zombie apocalypse starts. Then I might wish I'd bought a seriously bullet proof CT.
Just get bulletproof caps for the cameras and a way to wash them off. Then attach sheet metal to all of the windows. Use the cameras to look around, like a tank. They should make these for the military at some point.

Yep. That is what I expect.

I am turning my Tri-Motor reservation into a purchase, whether it has Dual Motors or Tri Motors. I will go with the longest range, and I will pay whatever they set the price at .....up to $90,000.

You are correct sir. This is why Elon never wants to talk about the price and why they haven’t released it yet. It’s also why he’s trying to temper expectations. Things will get cheaper if and when they can ramp them to volume production, which is going to take a while (ie not next year). Most likely in 2025/2026 if demand holds out. Interest rates are killing the auto sector right now.

In the podcast Elon mentioned that he is is pro human life and not an extinctionist. He also talked about him attending the AI summit soon and thinking it shouldn't be programmed by extinctionists. So the chances of Optimus being allowed to be used as a law enforcement or military unit with a weapon is likely zero.
Apparently he’s coming to the U.K. to talk about AI this week.

Most interesting for me is that Cybertruck is at the F250 class.

Time for Lance to design their 850 camper truck for it.

I am so done pulling a trailer and I can start dreaming of overlanding in Norway.

Elon wasn't addressing niche use cases like over-the-road long-distance towing, he was speaking directly to their core customers and the way they use use their trucks every day. That's why he said 240 miles of range at 80 mph was all that most people needed for range to be a total non-issue.

And with the speed at which Tesla has built out the Supercharger Network, and the projected speed of new Supercharging adds, I tend to agree 100%.

Rivian came out with their Max Pack, for a total range of 410 miles, for an additional $10K, and it's not going to be a popular option because owners are finding out that it doesn't matter, as long as they have reliable fast DC charging.

I think various sizes, weight, types of projectiles will have different results. I think we'll see more clearly with information at the reveal, or in demo tests that some people will undoubtedly be doing at some point.

I for one won’t be testing

I would interpret this as the glass will not stop a bullet, the same way the stainless steel panels did on the Tomi gun test

I don’t think the glass was ever promised to be bulletproof, but I may be wrong
Exactly. It wasn’t the purpose for the truck. Police cars are also not bulletproof. Perhaps in the future they will need to be. And with future technology, it will be possible.
