I understand why you want something to look it's best. But what you're demanding are specs that are applied to the space shuttle, not consumer vehicles - even expensive ones. I've sat in a few F150 lightning trucks and have found so many build flaws it's ridiculous. First thing I notice when I sit in the cab of the truck is how cheap it feels. Then there's the clunky software that's not intuitive at all. The misaligned buttons on the center panel...I could go on and on. But the point is that EVERY car has imperfections, because when you have the choice between good enough and perfect, good enough wins because it costs exponentially more to go for perfect which is what makes spacecraft so expensive. So do you want a $6,000,000 truck that is perfect? Or a $120k truck that is going be be within the tolerance of the specs to which it was designed? For cosmetic anomalies, I'm more forgiving. If I can stand 5-10' away from my vehicle and not see the flaws (as you won't be able to with a 3/16" gap), then it's probably fine and won't affect mileage or handling. Now if it's mechanical flaws, there's cause to be a bit more picky.
A lesson I learned when taking delivery of a factory ordered Lincoln back in 1985: it’s a car, not a Swiss watch.

Ok, it seems there is a lot of debate regarding the quarter panel gap photo I took yesterday. So I took a few more photos and measured the gap. In my own opinion, I can't really tell unless I put my face into it, I met another forum user today and he agrees that it doesn't look bad at all. I tried to move/push it in but there is zero movement. I was expecting this level of build quality when I submitted the order and honesty I probably won't even bother to get it fixed. However, the right turn signal really bugs me: 30% of the time it doesn't work, I had to click on a specific spot to turn it on. This would definitely be an issue I'll address with Tesla. With that being said, be your own judge at delivery and I surely hope CT's build quality improves over time.
BTW, just came back from the tint shop, tried the matte PPF film and it looks pretty good! Should I go for it?

This is really not bad, at least not worse than Model X which I feel acceptable. Congratulations!

I did the same order/deposit day. I'm in San Diego. I however got cold feet and decided the truck was going to be far more expensive than I could comfortably afford. I made the stupid move of cancelling my order at the same time I ordered a Model Y instead (literally half the price it the door and I've been driving it since 12/26, 2 days after ordering). I wish I would've just kept my Cybertruck order until it was time to get the VIN and see a delivery date because now it's killing me wondering when it would've been delivered! Another part of the reason I cancelled beyond the cost was that it was seeming more and more like only employees and influencers were getting orders and that would continue until probably March. I see I'm wrong now, but at least I'm not going to be car poor. I wish Tesla would been more communicative about the delivery dates! The zero communication just gave me too much time to second guess my decision. I'll still constantly be thinking about the what if until I buy my 2027 Cybertruck! LoL
I almost did the same thing (was looking at the X plaid, the Escalade V, and even Hummer EV) after getting no real updates during Christmas week, my wife stopped me.

Good wife! Give her a hi-5 for me! (My wife rolled her eyes and asked why when I placed my order... LoL)

See this is what I’m taking about in respect to guys like this guy. Panels that align are now space shuttle spec’s. I guess all the cars I have owned were all put together by nasa engineers then. Stop being a Tesla Simp. Panels that align is far from rocket science. A 1/16th inch difference between panels gaps yeah that’s fine. 3/16” gaps from panels not installed correctly no that’s not ok. If my truck turns out like this guys I might likely be in a f150. Guys like you are why these trucks are constantly plastered all the the internet as it’s comical how far you go to defend defects like this. I have never seen commitment to a brand like this when faults are features ?
If the CB was constructed like a traditional vehicle, I would expect fit & finish to match the standard of other manufacturers. I'm a little more forgiving when a company decides to use material that will stop a bullet (maybe more importantly, a shopping cart) and redefine the entire industry for the first time in over 100 years with superior exoskeleton engineering (check out the crash test).

Not here to argue anyone's opinion - it's just where I'm coming from.

There is the mentality of I will teach Tesla by not accepting my car/truck. This theory only works if others aren't willing to stand and take the place you were standing in.

So it really wouldn't teach Tesla anything. Except you don't want the car/truck and forfeited deposit or asked for $100 back. At this point they wouldn't care much. I doubt one would even call you or send you a survey. One could reject, and wait for another. How long that might be is anyone's question. If Tesla makes efforts to make good, I think take the truck and be happy. If no that's the way"in spec bs" I would have to be a bit stinky.

Tesla is still not mature auto. They are making new products just like Apple made the I pod nano or something along those lines. Still growing. Still having growing pains. One can accept it or not. Again I don't think Tesla is crying over it.

Edit add:

Some people seem to think this is directed towards someone. If it was those people would have been tagged or this would be a response with a quote. This mentality of teaching Tesla is quite prevalent, as if everyone accepts mediocre. Mediocre will continue is the thought. Maybe not here, but many here are interested in the truck.

There's 8,000 F-150 Lightnings available on cars.com so I suggest you switch, this is not the truck you are looking for.

1705172257041.png
of which maybe 1,000 are actually for sale

cars.com sweeps dealer websites.

but Ford dealer websites list “for sale” inventory that includes customer-ordered builds that are in process between configuration and delivery.

probably 7,000 of the Lightning’s on cars.com are spoken-for

What is strange is how people are acting now vs. before. When I got my 3 and did meet ups as I went across the country I never had any negative comments on my thread. I answered questions. Tore apart car looking for rear heated seats. Again much different people commenting and much more negative folks in general compared to 3 launch. Maybe because of being left behind from Tesla's success.

Lesson for me. Is this time I am taking my pic on delivery from a distance with a Tesla grin, and riding into the sunset. EV's aren't new to me. I will get my joy from strangers on the road.

Edit add: I did see the correction thread on Reddit this morning showing the new pics...
This is a consequence of comments like “micron precision” “toughest truck ever built” and doing stuff like towing cars in a drag race, shooting at it etc. thats basically setting the bar at perfection. Its exacerbated by being $120 - $150k currently considering opportunity cost or interest.
Additionally there are other factors such having an agitator in chief, anti ev, anti tesla etc.

Just wait till someone gets killed in crash if you wanna see the true blood in the water moment.

so if someone else is going to sell kids drugs, may as well be me?

Some get me wrong, if someone declines an order and another person takes it, it softens the blow, for now

but if you think Tesla corporate doesnrpay attention to conversion rates you’re confused about something

not to mention, Tesla understands markets are far from infinite and that a non-conversion today means the end of the market just got one position closer

that said, the more substantive issue with declining a FS invite in particular is Tesla is more likely to view that as a rejection of the FS proposition, not the Cybertruck itself

none of the above addressing the real strawman in the “teach Tesla a lesson” framing as you posed it. It doesn’t necessarily mean one intends to “teach” Tesla anything more than a moral lesson about themselves as a consumer - that they, John Q Smith, won’t be buying that product.

just like they won’t be selling kids drugs, even if someone else will

**none of which is to say I side with John Q Smith, at least on the CT part - but I separately don’t endorse selling drugs to kids, unless I’m the kid in which case …**
