80K for a base work truck that has a 450 mi range. Pass. Or you can pay a hundred grand for a RST. You're better off buying an all-wheel drive Cyber truck and just getting the extended battery. If Range is the only thing you care about.

There is a trend with their EV cars. They only last about 3 years before they go back to the drawing board on them. Volt / XLR / Bolt / etc... Let's just hope they continue with their latest with Ultium products. Hummer production is up and the sales, only about 6 Silverado EVs within AL, curious how the ZDX runs as well since it's on the same platform.

I don't know many responsible company owners that are going to buy a $80,000 base work truck. When you can buy a gas equivalent for $40,000 less. That makes absolutely no sense. And the Chevy even with a 450 mi range is only going to get a third of that when it's towing. Same with any other EV.

if you want to pay $77K (starting price) for a long range work truck with a spartan interior and minimal tech offering, good on you

and it doesn’t qualify for the fed rebate (so take a lease of a work truck, good on you)


if instead you can’t buy fleet, and want a long range retail truck, the Chevy RST has lower range (est 400mi, but not yet official) is largely delayed until “at least” 2025 according to Chevy - and will cost “at least” $105K (previewed pricing before the delay was announced - we’ll see what MSRP is in 2025+) - with 1,300 lbs payload and 10,000 lbs. towing … which means that at a 10% tongue weight the truck will have only 300lb payload available, at curb weight (eg before fluids, etc.)

And to get this RST that *may* be produced in 2024, it’ll no doubt be in limited quantities - if you were one of the first few hundred to reserve it on announcement, take a crack at it.

Otherwise, I still list this truck as a vaporware alternative for almost anyone

I wouldn't get one, but they managed to do what we were all hoping for on the cybertruck.

At 240 kWh of useable energy, it has a battery twice as large as the Cybertruck. and is EPA rated at 533 Wh/mile vs. the 362 Wh/mile of the longest range Cybertruck. That big battery really impacts the efficiency, making it cost almost as much as an ICE truck to take on trips.

To me, the worse thing is that since GM will be selling it at a large loss, it's not really a viable product and will only be available in limited quantities.

GM is telling reservation holders the RST will start deliveries in next 5 months. That makes sense because they have published the full feature list to dealers (below). I have a reservation - am not likely to follow-through with it since I've decided an R1T will be a better overall solution for me - but my discussions with the dealer and the GM reservation holder page says RST 1st half of this year (volume production late in the year at the earliest).

The CT and the Silverado are both pretty much unavailable to anyone without a pre-existing early reservation. Otherwise, the Lightning and R1T are the only EV pickups readily available in 2024.

yeah, this is the 'largely' delayed until 2025 - in that they apparently are only going to make in on an existing line, rather than the separate (dedicated?) line that was planned but now delayed until 2025

and yes, the CT is as 'real' as the RST in respect of needing to have been on 'the list.' Just that there's a greater chance of CTs spinning out in numbers before year end to get further down its 'list'.

And still, regardless, apples-to-apples the CT AWD plus a range extender is ~$96K where the long range version of the Chevy retail truck is $105K anticipated. If a person needs the bed space, obviously the CT's range extender (>400mi EPA combined) isn't a one-for-one compare to the Chevy RST (~400mi EPA combined).

But on the other hand, I'd be anxious to see reviews of how a 200kWh pack in a Chevy truck, aside from range, plays out in other performance metrics.

Like I said, a 1,300 payload with 10K towing means that, range aside, the RST may not exactly be a towing monster itself.
