Good reasonable video. If the diff lockers mechanically work why would it be hard software wise to just have an on off selection with a warning if the car is going over a certain speed.

• Offroad mode disables every time you exit the truck - that’s a whiff, Tesla

• stock 4Runner and Subaru made it up an incline the CT couldn’t?
• even aired down to 30PSI?
• he says maybe could’ve w/ locker software enabled … but the Subaru?!?
• also based on vids, seems more a general software issue, not at all an obstacle for which lockers should be needed for (see again: Subaru)!? (Yes, sub has shorter wheelbase but…)

• ripped off 3 of 4 mudflaps - then found Tesla recommends removing them before off-roading, but there aren’t instructions

• aero covered removed because they ā€œgot in the way and flew offā€ after airing down

While this guy repeats how he’s not at all experienced offroad, neither was the driver of the Subaru crosstrek - and the Subaru made all the obstacles. Which doesn’t surprise me much, as they footage shown doesn’t have them doing much.

glad to see the guy happy about experiencing his first ā€˜offroad’ time.

pretty underwhelmed with the outcome that might be had by, at best, unexperienced drivers

What about sand mode? Did you try it? Have any idea if that might of worked?

Gotta program it. Everything comes with a different priority.

I feel that this has more to do with Air Suspension being an issue offroad than anything else. On the obstacle he couldn't make it over....If you look at the 4 runner and Subaru, the wheels can more freely swing upwards and over the obstacle and keep traction on all wheels.

With the CT, it seems like the air suspension is so stiff that the entire truck lifts with the wheel on the obstacle, and that lifts the other wheels in the air and loses traction.

Heres a screenshot of what I mean. As you can see, if the front drivers side wheel was able to compress, it wouldnt force the CT upwards and hence the passenger front tire. The suspension is too stiff. Likely because it has to be to lift the truck with more air pressure to have more clearance. Catch 22....

I’m buying one given the chance but it does look to me like it was pushed out to meet a timeline. The truck and the backup support we’re not totally ready.

Yeah, but that's what active suspension is for. I wonder how far they'll be able to update it.

It's fun watching the off-road newbies learning for the first time. I think I was lucky to begin pushing the limits in cars like VW Beetles and Rabbits at first. It taught me the value of picking the right line and making the terrain work for you. By the time I got my first Nissan Patrol, I already had the basics down and it became second nature. It's mostly about knowing where your wheels are and where they will be so you can micro-manage your momentum for the trickiest spots.

I imagine there will be a bit of a learning curve with the rear-wheel steering!

Wheel fairings (mudflaps tend to be behind the tire, not in front) are I think for aero, another mod opportunity for quick disconnects of them and maybe a test opportunity to see how much they impact range.
They contain a bunch of instrumentation, though, kindof like the pitot tubes of an airplane. The cameras, charge port, tire sensors, and radio emitters seem to be in them.

In this shot, the only tire spinning was the one not on the ground, the other 3 were on the ground, but not pushing the truck forward. This is either lockers, software or both.

Just a thought ... I would guess it needs a lot of validation in all use (misuse) cases and road surfaces (read misuse - warranty damage).

what does ā€œoffroadā€ mode do, if not make it send power to all 4 wheels?

if its true that the other 3 tires were in contact, then I still don’t get pointing to lockers.

would lockers have helped? Maybe

should the truck NEED lockers for this scenario? No.

Subaru didn’t ?
