Can a third party take delivery of your truck for you if you are out of the country?

Hi guys, I am possibly going to be out of the country for business on the expected days when my cyber truck might be available and Tesla has indicated that they will only hold it for 5 days and then let go of the truck for someone else.

I'm trying to set it up so that my wife or brother or neighbor can be set up as a trusted party to go pick up the vehicle, after I have paid for it online.

Has anyone successfully done this?



Tesla is telling me that if I am the only person on the registration they will only release the truck to me, and I will lose my place in line if I can't pick it up within 5 days of it being available for pickup.

Interesting they will even give you 5 days. the contract says 3.

Don't think there's a way around it. You either add someone to the registration, or you have to be there within 5 days of when they are ready for you.

Just add your wife to the registration. You can always amend it when you get back if you wish to do so.

What Tesla is saying is consistent with what they've said for years. A number of Model 3 owners had their cars reassigned when they were on European vacations.

While you may be able to add your spouse, you will probably need to make sure that they are on any involved documents, such as trade-ins or financing or insurance.

If you add anyone I'm pretty sure both of you need to be there. It's why all of my Tesla cars are in my name only. Makes it easier for pick up.

Trying to coordinate schedules for both me and my wife is a nightmare.

Legally she is you with that little piece of paper

It seems when Bill Gates’ FSCT arrives, he will have one of his lawyers with Power of Attorney sign the transaction documents and drive it off the lot. That is what I would try to do if I were unavailable to pick up my FSCT.

Tesla send in the registration paperwork. The truck will be registered in both names.

Don't have to tear it up. It can certainly be a limited power of attorney for a specific task.

Back of the line seems like the only option. I'm finding myself in this position after going from no VIN or any info to "hey your truck is here and ready for delivery Saturday".

edit: To the service centers credit, they were receptive to a creative solution and delivery is still set for tomorrow.

Basically. Wait on them indefinitely, with no updates or estimates until very late in the process. Even the estimate they give you to get your deposit won't be shown in your account (let alone updated). But your order agreement gives you 3 days to pick it up after they say so, and they can give it to the next person. If you don't respond to them at all within 14 days of them contacting you about pickup, they can cancel your order and keep the deposit.

This doesn't mean they for sure will do those things, just that they can. Likely they would push you back until the next truckload at least once before they hard cancel you. Unless you just don't respond to them.
