Yep spoke with Tesla yesterday regarding my install. If you don't do the install for any reason, you cannot keep equipment. For AWD they give you 6 months supercharging and for Beast you get 12v months instead. You can decline it before or after you get the quote.
Total BS! I told the installer I was moving within the next year or two and didn't want to install it at my current residence. I haven't heard back yet. I have an AWD and 6m of supercharging is worthless to me. I'll never get $2400 out of supercharging in 6 months. Tesla should give us a $2400 supercharging credit that expires in 5 years.

Agreed! Could be moving in a couple years also and was just going to wait. I think I have used a supercharger 3 times in the past 2 years. Wonder how installing it now then removing it when I move and having it re-installed at new house would work.

I was told by the install it could be removed but for a cost. I am not going to pay $2600-$3000 (what I was quoted) to install it and another $2000 to uninstall it.

Yeah, I would rather not do that either!

I would also be happy if Tesla added a credit for the equipment to my account that I could use within 5 years. That way once I move I could have it installed. I want to have it installed, but not at my current residence.

I received a ridiculous quote from the Tesla assigned installer today. It definitely felt like complete BS. This company should not have a monopoly over my install or my equipment. There is definitely a Tesla tax going on here and he even told me they start at 4K and go from there. That’s not how it should work. He also led with it only being able to run the important things in the house and not everything. I talked him out of that because of my knowledge base on the subject but then got a sky high quote that is absolutely unnecessarily inflated.
I called another installer in the area and they claim that they got in touch with Tesla and were assured that they have the right to install PowerShare and that we have the right to choose who we use. That is not confirmed as a different Tesla rep may have a different response and as far as I know this has not been put into practice yet.

Also, the original installer agreed to come back out for another site visit with a Master Electrician and we talked through everything. I think they were rushing to get the quote out, trying to account for worst case scenario, and also counting on that I would just accept it. It turns out this will be the first one that they have done and they are still trying to figure it out how it works and how to do the install.

Also, admittedly I have a difficult install scenario. We are going back to the drawing board and are going to work together to figure it out. I am in no rush as I already have a HPWC that I will use to charge in the meantime. I would just like to have this in place for Hurricane and then football season. Hopefully we can get it all figured out. I am feeling better about it now that I don’t feel like I have to accept this quote or turn down the equipment, at least not yet.

Got this today from the assigned installer (SmartCharge America) - "We have been informed that the equipment is not allowed to be released for customers to have outside of installations. All equipment will be returned to Tesla if it is not being used for the installation."

So who owns the equipment if I'm just paying the installation cost? Was Tesla lending it to me? Did Tesla sell it to me as part of the Foundation Series buy? Did Tesla sell it to the installer and they are just "including" the cost in the installation?

Tesla gets to pick the installer - essentially awarding SmartCharge America a monopoly on my installation. Great for SmartCharge America - they can quote any price they like - what else is holding them to be reasonable? How do I not have a choice in the when, where, and if my home is modified?

Text from the Tesla email...
"Your order is eligible for free Powershare Home Backup hardware—you just cover the installation cost. Take our survey to confirm your interest.**"
"**Eligibility based on installation feasibility at your home. "

Sorry... but this is just another example of vaporware, partial delivery - first FSD ("lowest priority"), no Autopilot, not even Automatic wipers, Sentry mode not deactivating at Home/Work, uncalibrated headlamps, wheel covers.
So, the equipment didn't come with your shipment, and your contract gave the seller the option of installation or free charging, correct? It sounds like for those who have the capability of doing the work, like most contractors and builders, would be better off not taking the equipment. As others have said, and I would agree, the value of this package is not worth it. I think you can get the logo laser etched into your CT for far less... No one would be the wiser. Hmmm, maybe laser engraving CT's would be a great business to start...

Congrats for being an early adopter. That's what happens..... you test the new stuff.
I get that, I'm quite happy to be an early adopter and test new stuff. But I can't test it if it doesn't exist yet.

We call those a go away quote.
Make it high enough that you don't take it, but if you do anyway, they know they are ripping you off. There's also an element of I don't want to deal with this install/customer in there.

Which is why it's so important to have at least to quotes.

This is poor form from Tesla, they have some stuff to work out.

I should have one of the simplest installations and it is $4186. Ridiculous!

I am trying to figure out if I can stay on NEM2 with PG&E with this. For $4200 I want this in writing from the installer and also from PG&E. If I go to NEM3, it would be a nightmare.

agreed with nem 2/nem 3 nightmare but my knee jerk reaction is you're not changing any solar you have, so that shouldn't change, right?

I believe so, but PG&E can do what they want. :p For electricity for EV charging has tripled in the last 5 years. $0.12 per kWh to almost $0.36 cents. Just need some confirmation.

Totally agree. And SCE has been the same. they just raise rates for TOU d prime and don't say anything at all. i don't think it's quite tripled but it's still egregious.
