If the vehicle is truly $47k -7.5k for tax credit = $40k and 300+ miles of range it will likely eat into the Cybertruck sales. Especially with Cybertruck being 3-5 years out for most people that didn't reserve years ago, and at the pricepoint that is supposedly 40k it will be interesting.
This is for the single motor version of course.

One of the main reasons I went Lightning over R1T, despite being locked at R1T introductory price, is the R1T was just too small of a truck. The R2 getting even smaller means that I have zero use case for the vehicle. My partner drives a Model 3 and I placed a reservation because it could be a viable alternative, but nothing Rivian offers is really appealing to a full size truck buyer.

I do think a lot of CT buyers don't know what they're getting into if it's their first full size truck and might move to a Rivian if they can't manage the size.

The main truck competitors for CT remain the traditional U.S. auto makers. Rivian appeals more to the electrification of people who buy Jeeps and Rav4s, not people buying F-150s and Silverados.

The base R2 is 270 miles from what RJ told MKBHD.

Tesla is no or even anti V2H/G and all that EvPower is going to waste! I will never buy a Tesla and Rivian is the same no bi-directional power.
Hmmm .... have you actually not heard about V2H that CT has ?

That $45k MSRP was just an attention grabber for the media. That's for the RWD strippo version that nobody will want.

Everyone will want the DM or Tri Motor version. The Dual Motor will most likely start at $55k, the Tri Motor at $60k plus.
Most likely? Where did you get those numbers?

Rivian is aiming the R2 directly at the Model Y. The Model Y RWD is $44k, The Model Y LR is 49k, MYP 52.5k.
Rivian pricing their RWD at $45k, I would bet their dual motor will be around 50k.

If we look at the current R1S, to upgrade from the base dual motor to the quad motor its 8k. So zero chance the R2 dual motor will cost 10k more. 5-6k tops since I think the dual motor R2 has a slightly larger battery.
The Tri Motor R2 I would assume have a similar mark up as the R1S (8k) which would put it at 53k...though my guess would be 55k.

So 45k > 50k > 55K.

Placed one on order. But…

I just bought my wife a 6.2 L V8 Yukon Denali, it’s a big old beast and takes Premium unleaded. This SUV has as much pick up speed down the road as my Ford lightning does, in my opinion.

I’ll let her drive that for a few years and get it out her system and then try to get her either the R2 or the R3. This depending if Tesla doesn’t come out with something better to what Rivian is doing now with EV SUVs.

Like the square SUV look with Rivian, not so much the ? look of the Model X and Y?! LOL

Time will tell?!

I think it's going to be built in Georgia instead of normal or something like that. Also, they basically took a page out of the model Y book, with the structural battery back and stuff. So I don't think it's impossible.
Rivian announced yesterday they are not going to build a factory in Georgia.
They shut down those efforts.
They really didn't have the money, and still never got permits to actually build that plant. The locals were blocking the construction.

Your guess-ti-mates seem pretty reasonable.
I would assume most folks will go with the Dual motor, and it will start at about $50K.
Not sure what options could do to the price, but even at $53-$54K it is a lot cheaper than an R1S.

I love Tesla; however, I experienced an emotional rollercoaster when I first saw the Rivian R2. I feel like I want to “cheat” on Tesla with her! I need a “diamond dog” support session! What should I do guys? ;)

Rivian is a cool company and they have really cool quality products.

For my usecase, the CT is perfect but we have a model 3 as a second vehicle. If Rivian is still alive in 3-4 years and they are cash flow positive, I might consider the R3x as a second vehicle. That tri-motor little thing might be a heck of a lot of fun.

Also, they need to build more service centers in Canada. For now, there is no Rivian SC in my province so that's a no-go from the start until they build those SCs.

I'm rooting for Rivian, more competition is good.

Let's see, a battery that is bigger by about 16% has about 16% more energy.
And takes up about 16% more space.

And costs maybe 16% more.

Do you really think that Tesla didn't think about that size when they came up with the 4680 battery? The "size" of the battery is just something that has a lot of parameters and optimizations associated with it.

Yes, you could have maybe gotten an EPA blended range of 500 miles, but the Cybertruck would have been heavier, more expensive and probably lost a little clearance.
