Does anyone have a theory on why VIN assignment isn't linear? Example:

I configured AWD on 12/16, received VIN on 3/14, VIN is 41XX. In Ohio.

You configured AWD on 1/10, received VIN on 3/16, VIN is 36XX. Also in Ohio.

Are VINs assigned in blocks by factory line? I'm scratching my head on why there's a ~500 VIN lag on my order from a few weeks before yours.

I think it goes partially by service center. They were sending some to cleveland so mine made it there based on cleveland's list. But they wouldn't take it and send it to columbus or cincinatti instead because there were earlier orders there if their logistics say it makes more sense to send batches of 5 at a time to this SC. There were very few December orders for cleveland. One awd, one beast. So I just got lucky

Don't get me wrong. I'll just be happy to get one regardless. I'm just surprised to see VIN assignments happen so far out of order. I talked to Tesla rep and they said mine was in transit to Ohio currently, so that suggests there are at least 500 cybertrucks currently in transit (assuming all VINs are assigned once completed/shipped).

Actually, I just had another thought. Maybe yours was already shipped a while ago and someone failed to finance or backed out so it was reassigned. I think your and my delivery dates might be telling.

Didn't sound like it from the info I got from my showroom. Sounded like it was so early in the shipping process that the eta could easily change. As in, hasn't gotten on the train and started moving yet.

I dont understand it all either, I spent a lot of hours trying to figure out how this all went. And my numbers say there was less than a 5% chance that I got a vin on or before the date I did if they went totally randomly on the March eta orders.

Huh, that's strange that a 41XX VIN would be shipped out before a 36XX. Although it's possible the rep I spoke to gave me incorrect information too.

Another off the wall idea might be if one factory line is ahead of the other line and only assigning odd VINs while the other line assigns even VINs, but that wouldn't make a lot of sense outside of creating an easy way for Tesla to determine which line caused the issue when defects happen. I also don't know if both factory lines are fully up and running yet.

Vins don't go out in order. This has been happening a lot.

I think a fair amount of cars come the line with problems and they get set aside till there fixed. The good ones go straight to shipping.

except the ones where people have reported that he truck failed as soon as they left the parking spot on delivery day, or tonneau failed on delivery day and their told "schedule a service visit"

How many miles are peoples cybertruck a showing up with? I just viewed my order ticket and oddly it show the mileage on the truck. So besides that being exciting as all get out, it’s got mean it’s done !! But 15 miles so guessing that’s testing?

Trucks come off, some go thru random testing, adjustments, waiting for parts, etc. Then get assigned to ship out. Order of actual VINs means really nothing. Other than we know greater than 4.1k have been built, minus the gaps. Pretty impressive considering I've only seen 1 RC during this whole time, and I travel a lot, multi-state.
