Wheels should be balanced with a little lead weight on the inside. Its possible it wasn't done, or the weight fell off. If you spin anything that isnt perfectly balanced it will vibrate as it speeds up. Just like your washer machine does on the spin cycle. Its also how your phone vibrates, a small motor with an imbalanced weight.

This is still operating under the assumption of mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and the tires which does not exist on the cyber truck

You have a valid point, but I assume a 100lbs vibrating mass attached to anything on the vehicle will be felt through the steering wheel.

Took delivery today; I drove sedately up to 80, no shiver. My son punched it to 105, steady as a rock.
However I think it’s weird there are no aural proximity warning to objects close to sides or rear. Spent 20 minutes looking for software switch to turn that on. Can’t find it, but can’t believe they didn’t include.
There is a 360 bird's eye-view, but yeah, no warning.

Excellent thread. Will add an 80 mph data point tomorrow.

did it once yesterday for a few miles but only recall noticeable vibration from what I believed was the tire tread.

everyone also hear the motors upon acceleration? Not typical compared to my M3 but not necessarily objectionable.
I agree. Haven’t noticed any unusual vibrations and thought what I was feeling was more tire tread than anything. Yes, and I like to hear the motors. I like that they’re noticeable but still quite enough to have a normal conversation.

I feel the same thing at 80, slight vibration in steering wheel. I’ll check tomorrow if I can feel it anywhere else in the truck. Seems most responses think it’s tire balance. Anyone have them balanced and fixed this yet?

Yes much louder than my previous S. Not annoyingly loud though.

You're absolutely right, the third motor in the Cybertruck's Drive-by-Wire (DbW) system could be a source of the feedback you're feeling. Here's a breakdown of how it might contribute:

* Stability control: The third motor could also be part of the Cybertruck's stability control system. By adjusting the torque delivered to individual wheels, it can help maintain traction and prevent skidding. This might manifest as a slight nudge or feedback when the system activates.
* Enhanced steering feel: Some DbW systems use additional motors to provide a more natural feeling of steering feedback. This could be the case with the Cybertruck's DbW system, especially since it lacks a traditional mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels.

Overall, the presence of a third motor in the Cybertruck's DbW system suggests that it plays a role beyond just propulsion. It likely contributes to stability control and potentially even a more natural steering feel.

third motor for AWD? did not know that. I might request service before I go business trip, hope they accept it.

They're not your drivetrain.

The three motors in the Cybertruck's DbW (Drive-by-Wire) system are separate from the main drivetrain motors.

* Main drivetrain motors - AWD: These are the electric motors responsible for propelling the Cybertruck forward and backward.
* DbW system motors: These are three small electric motors specifically dedicated to the DbW system. They are not involved in directly driving the wheels. Two (a redundant system) are involved in providing precise turning control and there is this 3rd one that gives you the "road feedback."

it will start shivering when approaching to 80
I usually drive around 82
I feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel once I hit 80 mph
I drove sedately up to 80, no shiver. My son punched it to 105
Will add an 80 mph data point tomorrow
No vibration on my CT @ 100mph
will try with no limit.
I feel the same thing at 80
"Son, do you know how fast you were going?"
"It was for science, sir"
