Tint Shop Cracked My Window

On Day 4 of ownership, the window tinters left the window in the fully up position, accidentally closed the door against the stainless steel, and cracked the corner of the inner glass

Wow, I honestly didn't even know it was possible to roll the window up that far while the door was open (just thinking about my model Y). Very interesting, I'll have to be sure to tell my tint shop to be careful.

Did they disconnect the battery once window was all the way up? Not sure how they did that.

or they opened the door with the mechanical release not the button, that would cause the window to not roll down before its opened and could cause an issue. hence why tesla gives warnings on the screen if you use it.

The window is lowered even when using the mechanical release, but only if LV is active. Can still cause damage if the door is flung open fast enough.

That's what I thought, which is why this is so weird. But also, the tint needs to cover the whole window, in the fully up position. I can understand why they needed the window to be in this position, but not how they got it there.

They could have closed the door latch with a screwdriver to fool it.

I've been perusing the Service Manual, and procedures that call for LV disconnect require all windows to be lowered fully. In cases where this is not possible, it requires a towel or some other object across the door jamb to prevent the door from closing.

They tricked the door somehow. They just forgot to press the “exit button” to drop it back

I assume tricking the door is necessary for any tint job to cover all the glass.

It’s the forgetting to drop it down that is so painful.

I’m guessing they forget sometimes but there isn’t sharp stainless steel waiting on them

Installer must have tricked the door with the mechanical door release. All Tesla’s employ a door micro switch that automatically lowers the window a tad when closing the door.

There is a latch on the door, which installers can close manually with the door open. This will cause the windows to go up fully like it is shut. They have to unlatch it manually before closing the door for the window to drop down. I am a window tinter in WA state and we specialize in Tesla's. We have to use this method on all Tesla's for us to tint the windows. On all other Models, it will scratch the black window moldings (not crack the window). That stainless steel must be REALLY STRONG to crack bullet proof windows on Cybertruck.

not bullet proof windows but apparently gorilla glass liike on the iphones.
But yes, if the door is open you can manually latch it which causes the window to go up higher so the tinter can install the whole window

they must have gotten too excited to work on a CT and forgot. sheesh. Shouldn't take too long though for a replacement

This, I own a tint shop in NJ and we’ve been doing this forever on all Tesla models or any vehicle with a frameless window that lowers when you open the door. It’s just simply closing the latch with a screwdriver then releasing it once done. They simply forgot to unlatch the door.
