I had decided back in December that ordering a Foundation Series CT did not make sense for me.

An extra $20 for some badging, some trim and accessories that I didn't particularly want or could get for less from the aftermarket, FSD that seems like it will always be not-quite-ready, and the hardware needed to charge my truck and have my truck power my house (okay, THAT I WAS going to buy anyway). The cost of the FS CT makes it ineligible for the Federal incentive, to boot.

Then... I realized, along with many others that Tesla is not likely to sell non-FS Cybertrucks until the sales rate of FS is less that the production rate of Cybertrucks. That may not happen for a very long time and even then, every sale of a FS CT will delay the sales of a non-FS CT. This Foundation Series scheme could push the likely delivery date of a non-FS CT out to 2026 or later for me.

Then....... I got my email.

Now.............. I'm waiting for my VIN.

Eventually.............. I may decide the FSD is worth $12K ... maybe...

We’ll have FSD on the FS CT whether we want it or not. I will say, having used Auto Pilot / FSD on every Model S3XY since 2014, literally every iteration; v12.3.3 is finally looking like it’s closer than ever on my Model S. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long for CT to actually have the FSD activated. If it’s like a year, I’ll be pretty perturbed.

So, I haven’t been following the FSD chatter. It says that the FS has the capability, but not that it’s actually included. Can someone please shed some light on this? My understanding of this, was that it was included.

I believe it always said that, it is included but not available currently.

If you look for used cars on Tesla website, the ones that come with FSD say Full Self-Driving Capability

My understanding is: FSD firmware is not currently available on the CT and will be sent Over The Air in the coming months.

I fully understand your decision.

I predict “normal” AWD trims will be offered after Tesla hits 10k FS trucks. Even at 10k units produced the Limited Edition FS trucks won’t be that limited.

I was like you. I got my email two days ago. Yesterday, I went to the Tesla dealer 15 minutes from me to see if I could sit in the truck. I told them I just got an invite and they said anyone can sit in it now. Unlike the showroom 6 minutes from me, the people at the dealer totally ignored me. I tried to figure out how to raise the back seat, and I had to go to the desk three times to ask and was told the seat can't be raised. I made the guy come to look, and he told me the same again. Finally, I grabbed someone else walking by, and after five minutes, he figured it out. The customer service is certainly not like Mercedes.

Last night, despite horrible customer service, I decided to buy it anyway. I hope the service improves or even better, that I don't need service.

I'm waiting for my VIN.

Like you, I have been going back and forth on pulling the trigger. When I was test driving the model 3 they told me I likely would get the call for my CT at the end of Summer and expect delivery a year later. So I decided to buy a used Model 3 (from Tesla) last month to see if the Tesla would even be a good fit for my commute/ life. After 3 weeks, I freaking love it. This latest FSD Beta has been amazing. It has driven me back and forth to work (1hr. 15 min. each way) all week nearly flawlessly. Tuesday, I got the email to order my Foundation Series and the expected delivery is April-June. I committed to it last night. I found this website today and after reading some horror stories I am hoping it wasn't a mistake.

I doubt it. The forums / internet is negative biased. If you like I can provide many links to Toyota / Ford / etc forums where brand new Taco 2024 or F150s have issues. The ratio of people coming any forum to gush vs bitch is like 1 to 100. If you get a hold of an owner in the real world the story flips almost 100%. I am loving my tank from the future. Literally hundreds of people that have come up and talked to me and inquire about it daily seem to agree. You will have a blast. And will chuckle every time you park and look back at it. That old Tesla magic is back.

I am fine as long as FSD is more trustworthy than me when I no longer trust my driving skills but still wish to be mobile. That is why I invested in it, not because I wanted to fall asleep and drive cross country (and definitely not for the promise of robo-taxis). I have not seen dramatic improvement in V12.3.1 but I also haven't tried 12.3.3 on my test scenario yet. I have a whole list of things that past versions have messed up and when they start getting fixed my trust and confidence will go up.

This is the main reason I may find the $12K expense worthwhile. That time is within the timeframe I usually keep a vehicle (which is also why I don't won't to wait more years for the truck.)
