...The law that created recalls didn't create a means by which to assuage your feelings about the meaning of the word when a sold product can be updated in the field without lifting a finger. Because that technology, even that concept that products could fix themselves hadn't even conceived of when the law was passed in 1966.

If you're upset about it, fix it, don't make up conspiracy theories about why it exists.

-Crissa
You know the drill.

It's the MSM, the administration, the driver, the competition, the Canadians, our impatience, our high expectations for the big bucks we already sunk in....

“Tesla said it first received a notice of one of these accelerator pedal incidents from a customer on March 31, and then a second one on April 3. After performing a series of tests, it decided on April 12 to issue a recall after determining that an “[a]n unapproved change introduced lubricant (soap) to aid in the component assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal,” and that “[r]esidual lubricant reduced the retention of the pad to the pedal.””

Finally a formal explanation… thank you for sharing!
Fuck, now I understand less than before.

I've tried to pry my pedal cover off, but it feels permanently welded to the pedal itself. I don't think I could get it off without completely destroying it. That makes me suspect incomplete assembly as the culprit in the two cases we know of in which the cover was not securely attached.
Same here. The cover is attached firmly. It was engineered to stay put, so don't really know if some soap lubricant they are now calling unapproved would affect every vehicle. It doesn't seem to be a problem on my vehicle at all.

Since it was an "unauthorized" procedure there was no recommended method, amount or kind of soap applied if any. Maybe just someone's bright idea for those cases that were unusually hard to get together. No way to predict then which ones might loosen after months or years of usage, so stick in a rivet and call them all fixed.

I also wonder about the tendency of some owners to floor it hard, slapping it down to get that max acceleration rush. I see it over and over on youtube videos. But it's not normal to do in everyday driving.

My nit pick is that the rivet is round...

Interesting note—when Tesla filed the recall with NHTSA, they said 3,878 CT were shipped. With the VINS we are seeing seems a little off but I was always bad with math.

Finally a real recall...
If the problem is soap... can we just detach it? Clean it and just put it back...

I know I know... is a super sophisticated car that needs to be worked by the genius bar... sorry the Tesla technician.

I am just salty I have not receive mine yet.

Just stopped by Fort Myers Tesla. They have ZERO clue about this recall annd have 8 trucks. Anyone else dealing with an incompetent SC?
KC is a cluster f__k.
They told me they were holding off on any further deliveries until they could get 15-20 together for a big CT delivery day ??‍♂

Haha, fuck them. Maybe Tesla thinks it isn’t worth it to send repair kits to service centers without 15+ Teslas. Might be worth it to ask for a new VIN. I’m canceling my Roadster preorder, never want to deal with this crap again

They have 17 on the lot and just refuse to be transparent or set any reasonable expectations.

Did you read the recall? It is not a bad design, if was an altered process without engineering review. That is still a problem and will hopefully be addressed systemically rather than individually, but it isn't a "defective design."
If it's just a friction fit holding it that's a bad design.

The original design WAS a mechanically locking design (see photos of the bare, uncovered pedal with two molded-in protrusions on the face of the pedal). These are ramp shaped as the pedal cover is slid on, and vertical catches as the cover is fully installed.
Some of the pedals don't seem to have that, I didn't see tabs on the bare pedal of the original video, maybe they did a redesign, but if a bit of lube caused the ones with the "locking tabs" to come off as well then it's still not a good design.

The guy who hit the pole was not "run off", he left of his own accord. I suspect at the embarrassment of realizing he failed to negotiate the corner due to excessive speed (and possibly slicker than normal conditions from contaminants that normally build up at busy interections).
Good theory, ruined of course by the fact that he's still posting.

Mine was also minor at 50mph, went away by 60, then came back at 70, and was REALLY bad at 80mph. To the point where I didn't feel safe going that speed or faster. We took the service center tech out for a drive as they aren't allowed to take it above the speed limit, and he for sure agreed there was a balance issue with ours.
Can you let me know if it gets resolved and how. I have an appointment on 4/30 for this and other items.
