This is a bad scenario. While cover was closed he dropped his iPad down the slit where the cover rolls back into. We cannot see it as it went probably to the base of the well. I’m terrified to hear what it will involve to retrieve it. We cannot use the cover now as something will get damaged for sure.
Anyone else drop something down there?

I’m sure I’ll get replies that I’m “screwed”.

Don't use tonneau and take to service. Unless you have a toilet snake type camera and long narrow grasping device I don't think you will get it on your own. I think you would also have trouble getting a grip on the iPad with a metal coat hanger. I also imagine the space is too narrow for one of those suction cup light bulb replacement rods.

Definitely not going to use it. I made an appointment for Tuesday, but they don’t have any experience with this truck yet. I’m curious if anyone else dropped anything down there accidentally.

It sure would be nice if the bed wall could just pop off like every other piece of plastic on this for easy cleaning of the Tonneau compartment.

If anyone including Monroe takes apart the tonneau, I would love to see the cavity dimensions, weight, and cost to manufacture. As part of My ROCC project I want to use that space for extra house batteries. I am thinking 48 VDC and that space could fit ~20kWhrs or more. If the steering, HVAC etc could be powered from the house battery it would effectively increase the range. Also 48vdc would lend itself to Solar panel additions.

for 3rd party guys I bet you could make a powered reinforced fabric tonneau that would store below the overhang above the bed. No impact to range and it would open up the space as described above.

I wish Tesla would offer a tonneau delete option.

I've always had tonneau covers on my pickups because they provide lockable space without all the disadvantages of a canopy. The motorized cover on the Cybertruck's vault is, by far, the most functional, most convenient, most theft resistant and the strongest tonneau cover of them all. And, it comes with the truck at no additional cost, unlike the rest.

A tonneau delete option would have a very low take rate, they would sell very few of them. Most people think Cybertruck's automatic tonneau cover is one of the best features of the truck. I don't see a delete option coming in the next 6 or 8 years because Tesla likes to focus on hitting the heart of the market, where the most buyers are, and keeping things simple to keep prices low and functionality high. Those who want a truck without a tonneau can select a different manufacturer (or remove it themselves).

I love the sound it makes when deploying and retracting. It's mesmerizing.

Just yesterday, when I exited a country store, a young man was looking at my Cybertruck with wide open eyes, jaw hanging down. I said, "Pretty cool truck, huh?" and he said, "Is that yours?" with a look of disbelief in his eyes. When I demonstrated the tonneau cover uncovering the bed and going "clickity-clack, clickety-clack", he simply said, "No way!".
