This is a bad scenario. While cover was closed he dropped his iPad down the slit where the cover rolls back into. We cannot see it as it went probably to the base of the well. I’m terrified to hear what it will involve to retrieve it. We cannot use the cover now as something will get damaged for sure.
Anyone else drop something down there?

I’m sure I’ll get replies that I’m “screwed”.
I'm not a apple user, but don't you have these chargers that stick using magnets to the back? Magsafe? Maybe you can use one to try and fish it out... again, I know iphones have it, but not sure if ipads have it too.

"Which leads me to this question for Tesla really. Let say you load it up with soil/dirt, close the cover so it doesn't get muddy. Go over a lot of bumps, and rough terrain. Wouldn't the dirt just fall into that cavernous area? seems like a poor design. Or really anything that can fly around can drop down in there that is narrow enough or like soil, like crushed stone or modified stone. etc."

I agree, when the cover is opened the end of the cover fills this gap (based on pictures and videos I've seen, you would know first hand), maybe they could add a cross bar that fills this gap when the cover is closed.

My wife rigged a plumbing grabber tool with hot glue blobs on the teeth but there is this annoying bar in the way. iPad is above that silver bar. ?

I'm sure Tesla service can get it out for you. You might be able to get it out yourself if you drop the tailgate and crawl in you can unscrew the font part of the truck bed slide that panel back sn you might see the ipad laying there. I dropped a washer down the side gap and when i removed the cover to try to find it I saw the tonneau cover was all rolled up there.

Can you send a message to Monroe and ask him what is required to access that area. He should have the most knowledge outside the factory workers.

This is intriguing. Did you have to disconnect anything with the outlet panel or did you do the other side without the outlets?

I believe that some of the tablets are magnetic.... maybe you just need a camera and a fish tape with a metal end.

Unfortunate and fortunately we have a case on it so it’s blocking the magnetic part. Thank you though.

What is interesting is that all instructions for the LH side panel assembly show no power outlets. Which honestly is not good as I have no idea how to remove side panel without messing up the outlet wiring behind it.

Well then that case *should* be pretty easy for the the finger grabber to latch on to. Good luck friend!

Maybe this other pic shows the tonneau cover better. Its behind the soft black fabric in front of the compressed air tank. To remove the cover just lift the plastic covers up and undo the 10 bolts. I tried to upload a video for you but x said its too big.

That’s the bed floor not side panel though. Can’t get access behind that front wall with bed floor removed. In reply to cyberGus.

Not sure if your question was for me but no nothing needs to be done with the outlets or power. It only takes about 10 minutes to remove the bolts and lift the front portion of the truck bed up. The power outlets are at the back of the truck.

…A Few Moments Later

just go thru the interior.. remove the seatbacks and paneling. There are two ‘square holes’ in the bulkhead… maybe these will assist with the extraction..

put the kid in charge of keeping track of the screws… ?
