Got into my truck with a door and seat full of water after it rained all night. Went back and checked and the window never closed after I got out last night. Now the truck smells like a pond. Haven't noticed this happening before. At least everything still works so far. Before I got out and after I got out pictures below.
Why can't Tesla close windows in the rain? Why no app notification that it failed to close the window??

That would be a cool feature; automatically close the windows when it detects rain.

I thought the app already did that. Perhaps it is the Tessie app as it warns you that precipitation is coming and you have a trunk or bed cover open...thought it worked for windows.

must be a 3rd party app, which I don't use. Neither me nor the wife got a notification and when I checked my settings windows weren't an option.
I've never had the window fail to close after getting out.

I never leave my windows open. The truck did it. The window goes down to open the door, and it never went back up after I closed it.

I had it happen, once, on my right rear window. I didn't put it down but it was cracked like that, fortunately, it was/is in the garage.

Could probably be done when Sentry mode is enabled, not so much otherwise. I'm assuming that rain detection uses the cameras.

I think there's a setting in the vehicle (NOT the app) for open window notification, etc.
Controls > Locks > Car Left Open Notification > Doors & Windows

If that's set, no idea why it might have failed.

Although if a window didn't close again after opening for door opening, I'd guess that's software, and the same bug might make being left that bit open be treated as not to generate a notification.

Okay, Gatorbaby, I just tested a theory and I am correct. If you get out, and the door is still open with the window cracked, and just bump that window switch...which is easy to do...it stays down. It happens on all the doors. Open them up while the window is cracked, just brush the lower window switch and it ain't going back up automaticity when you close the door. Mystery solved.

Found it. And it's on. I guess if it's left open by the auto retract when you open the door, it doesn't know it's open?

It will fail if the window doesn't roll up automatically from when you open the door. It's happened maybe 2-3 times in the time I've owned all of my Teslas. That notification is only if you vent or roll the windows down intentionally.

You're right. I checked video when I got out, and I did put my hand on that area when I got out and the window went down a little more. I guess I need to turn around and check window from now on.

Didn’t claim you left them open. Sometimes I leave windows cracked to air out the cabin from transporting odoriferous foods, as an example. I’ll close them once I get the 10-min warning windows are still open.

Still, sounds like a cool feature to close windows in the event rain is detected while airing out the cabin. Just made the comment cause of your question…
Why can't Tesla close windows in the rain?

Thinking the same thing. Auto wipers use cameras. Maybe they can be used for windows too. But then again, with the number of complaints about auto wipers, I’d imaging windows won’t close when they should and close when they shouldn’t.

Glad you at least have a solution. You could be driving an old ICEmobile like I am and have to manually do all this! Yesterday I took out the mat under the spare which was sodden from condensation from the storms and left it all open to dry.

It is soooo easy to do with the door handle right there, way too easy.
