I mentioned to SC the new aero cover with the new seal and the fact I have unusual amount of water coming in. I got the below when I got it back. I need to see if I at least got the new aero. I still have a pretty good leak. Two SC trips ago I did have the gap. Gap fixed but now I have more slats and bars than I need and still leaks.

I put this out there about 7 months ago for the DIY leak fix for your aero cover. It’s been 7 months since the DIY fix was performed, the bed of the truck is still watertight with no water intrusion what so ever. I even made sure to use products that anyone can easily find and purchase at your local big box store. Trust me anyone can do this repair, just pay attention to DETAIL and follow the video if needed. Tesla is amazing…really amazing, but don’t expect them to alter or customize anything outside of the products currently being manufactured or stray away from current written repair procedures. A little bit of water intrusion the bed is no big deal to most, but probably is for all who is reading this. Here you go, please let me know if you have any questions. Here to help.

So update on mine…

1st I would like to say the Service personnel at the Center were courteous and extremely helpful. It was a pleasure dealing with them and they were nothing but professional.

For a recap, I dropped it off for defective passenger side marker light not working and the Tonneau Rework. They gave me a MX Plaid as a loaner. SCORE! Was ready the next day! Went to pick it up and upon inspection before leaving the center the light was still broken And there was a gasket hanging from the tonneau. I pointed this out to the Service manager who then got the tech. Tech advised the work order stated the the passenger rear tail light was defective. So she changed what the work order said was defective. This is what the work order stated…
“Concern: Customer states: Other · Exterior - Rear passenger parking light not working. Can this be handled by mobile service?” I believed I did select the wrong option when making the appointment, but I did convey this aaaaand sent a video. They then removed the gasket and said the tonneau was working properly. Before I left they set me up a new appointment since the side marker light was not in stock.

I drove home through some rain so when I got home I opened the tailgate to look inside for Ss&Gs. I found water again. Upon inspection I found the gasket that was hanging was meant to be installed between the last 2 slats closest to the cab.

Notice the difference? The next day I drove over to the Service Center in my work vehicle and showed them my findings and to make sure they did not throw away the uninstalled gasket. They apologized and said all will be fixed when I brought my CT back to them for the new appointment.

This leads me to today. I dropped it off at 1030am and it was ready by 1230pm. They gave me a MY for a loaner to boot. The light is fixed, the gasket was installed, and all is right with the world. By far this is the quickest I have EVER gotten my vehicle back from any Service Center. I have to say I was a little worried from reading/hearing horror stories about Tesla Service. Those worries have been put to bed.

Sorry if this became a TLDR for some, but I wanted all the info out their.
Just got mine back from the SC today and they added the one slat. I’ll have to check if I have the rubber gasket between the last two slats. Thanks for the pics.

Additional slat added. Can confirm water leakage is exact same. Will be performing the fix from the YT video above in the summer.

Why does everyone care about getting the slat added knowing that the leak will not be fixed by this? Just curious. Aesthetically, you'd have to look pretty closely to notice the difference.

Mine still has the slat missing and I'll probably put it in as a line item if/when I need to take the truck in for service again. My concern is that dirt/debris/ice can sit in the 'slot' created by a missing slat and potentially damage something when the tonneau retracts.

If I were to open the tonneau with this piece in the slot, more than likely the roof appliqué would get pushed up/damaged as the tonneau retracted. Also probably scratching the tonneau in the process.

However, if the slot wasn't there, the piece would just slide on the tonneau as it retracts.

Makes sense. Maybe I'll keep at it as well.

Thanks so much for the pictures - I have the same issue - clearly see the holes in the aluminum bar on top. As a temp fix I can move the cover up by 1/2" or so so that the gap on top is closed by the slat - and it doesn't seem to create a noticeable gap at the tailgate end -it also doesn't report the cover as being open. Will report back if that helps, and I'll schedule a SC apt.

I must have the worst SC around. Mine leaked had the same issues and they just told me it was within spec, so I bought 3 slats and seals and installed myself. It’s $386 if you buy them on your own btw.

This is shameful on Tesla’s part that you had to do this. Know that you are not alone, though, and most of us have had to do a lot of work on our own to make the trucks reliable in some way shape or form.

Got the missing slat fixed in my CT, then on the way home afterwards, this happened:

Went back to SC and they had in stock so they put on a new one. The other side was coming off too so they put on new clips and adhesive strips on that as well. Fingers crossed ?
