First off thanks for the last set of answers a few weeks ago. Here are a few more curious questions I have that you all I am sure you all know the answers to.

Why do you need that super glass on the windows? I have read here awhile ago that you cannot break it from the inside in case of emergency with the normal tools that are sold. Is there a reason for the special glass or was that just used for some sort of selling point.

Next question goes with the above. What was the original purpose of the Sentry mode. I get that it can take video but when the truck was made/conceived what was the purpose for it? It seems like more cars would have it if it was truly needed. Do the other telsa models have it also? Was it just some sort of macho man add on by EM.

Also what happens if the screen goes out, can you still drive the truck home if you are out or are you blind and dead in the water.

Thanks and enjoy your Cybertruck and if near Austin and a Blue Ford Mavrick waves at you that is me....LoL

Ahh yes, the CyberMaverick! I remember you from a few weeks ago! https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/general-questions-for-you-owners.39143/

Why do you need that super glass on the windows?
The truck uses "Tesla Armor Glass," a special composite designed for increased durability. While not bulletproof, it seems likely to deter vandalism.

What was the original purpose of the Sentry mode
Sentry Mode was designed to enhance security by monitoring parked Tesla vehicles with cameras, deterring theft and vandalism, and recording incidents. It's available in all Tesla models (Model S, 3, X, Y), not just the Cybertruck, suggesting it's a standard feature.

what happens if the screen goes out, can you still drive the truck
If the touchscreen fails, you can still drive the truck using mechanical controls like steering and pedals, but you'll lose access to features like navigation and the backup camera. The Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive gear selections will be available above the rear view mirror.

The "super glass" is a feature in the realm of "tough, all duty truck," that was a cool party trick Franz and Elon could show off at the launch event (until they couldn't).
Sentry Mode is standard on all Teslas. It is there to make the vehicle safer, and put the owners at ease. Was created to allow owners to keep tabs on their vehicle, and give video evidence of incidents. This has proven to be valuable numerous times, from "he said-she said" accidents, to the recent spate of Tesla hate and subsequent arrests.
If the screen goes out, you can drive the truck like in the old days, before when vehicles were super computers. The gear controls are available above the rear-view mirror, and you can drive the vehicle using the squirkle, pedals, windows and mirrors.

Having getting stuck in intense hail with the CT before, I would put the glass a step above "gimmick". Windows broken and huge dents all around me. We came out completely unscathed.

I'm glad you're OK!!
It was a while back and we're all good! East Texas has some scary weather. Being from Southern California, I was NOT prepared. Thankfully the truck was ?

this. Last June, there was a massive Midwest hail storm here. So bad, that they turned on the tornado sirens.. something I’d never seen done for anything other than a tornado warning.

driving home in the truck to put our x in the garage (it was in the driveway) it sounded like shotgun blasts to the roof glass and windshield as the baseball sized ice balls slammed everything in Bellevue/Papillion Nebraska. Most my neighbors cars were very very badly damaged. I remember thinking while driving home “pleaseeee live up to your hype, glass and steel”.

It did. Not a single mark after I was able to get it cleaned up. Definitely not a gimmick.

also, sentry was released in 2019. Before the cybertruck was even unveiled. I remember that software update. Can’t believe it’s been so long.

All of the features you mention are becoming or are mainstream.

- OEMs are increasingly going to laminated glass because it breaks more reliably, provides better sound absorption, adds increased security, and adds the ability to embed heating elements, films, etc. increased security is but one feature. There have been statements that the glass is easier to break from the inside but every car owner should familiar use themselves with emergency egress procedures for their car.

- Sentry mode might have been a response to anti-Tesla vandalism, but it is an offshoot from the camera system that every Tesla has based on Tesla’s focus on autonomous driving. In fact, it is other OEMs that have fallen behind and not Tesla having an unuseful feature. Take dog mode as an example. As far as I know, Tesla more or less stands alone in having the feature but who would deny its usefulness?

- more and more OEMs are focusing to an increasing extent on displays for functionality. Yes, Tesla has gone to the extreme of removing buttons, dials, etc., because in an autonomous vehicle they aren’t needed. Many of those (beloved?) buttons and dials are now digital and just as susceptible to failure as a screen (screens these days are actually very reliable). The broader question is how many dials, etc are necessary to drive.

Laminated glass is tougher than regular tempered glass, and it also reduces noise more effectively. It has traditionally been used in windshields only. However, many auto manufacturers are now switching over to laminated glass for some or all of the side/rear windows, particularly on higher-end models. It's not just Tesla or the Cybertruck.

It's true that laminated glass is more difficult to break from the inside, but it is still considered safer than tempered glass. It doesn't send glass shards flying during an accident, and it keeps passengers from being ejected. It also makes it harder for anyone to break into your car.

Thank you all again and I knew I could count on you all giving good answers to honest curious questions.

It may be me but seems like Telsa could do better if they did some ads on TV or such. You all have enlighten me on several nice features of not only the CyberTruck but all models.

Telsa should advertise the Sentry mode somehow. Seems like a natural for a TV or print ad.

Hope you are enjoying your Cybertruck and just brush off the haters. Keep your sentry mode on seems the safe bet now.

Again thanks and if I was 40 again........... But I am not and the Cybertruck is just to much for me at my age and health issues. So I went with something (my CyberMavrick) that is still a truck for small stuff runs at HD or Lowes.

It's a big reason why I bought the Cybertruck. Two of my three windshield replacements for my Model 3 have occurred during road trips with semis kicking up rocks at lightning speed, cracking the glass.

I just got home from a 1100-mile road trip, and again, twice, I heard loud "PING" sounds. I looked at the glass during stops, and not even a scratch!

This is even more important if you're spending money on tinting the windshield; you don't want to keep paying to replace the tint after every rock chip.

What was the original purpose of the Sentry mode.
The Full-Self Driving computer always had cameras all-around, which would save the video when there is an incident. Sentry-Mode was added later (in 2019) with a software update to let it record activity even when parked, as a security measure. Unfortunately, since that was not the original purpose, running it required keeping the FSD computer active and it drained like 5% or more per day. A recent update has improved that somewhat.

Also what happens if the screen goes out
You can even reboot the infotainment system while in motion with the "two-thumb salute" (hold down both scroll wheels); music will stop, and the screen will go blank for a minute or two. While disconcerting, the vehicle's operation is unaffected.

I have a 2023 Maverick Lariat. Great truck, when the recalls didn't plague it. I had it die twice on the day of big trips and just gave it over to my son to drive. I then bought a Plug-In Hybrid Mitsubishi Outlander which was excellent except the tech was just so old c/w Tesla. So then I bought a Non-Foundation AWD CT. My AWD CT maneuvers very much like the Maverick into and out of parking spaces, parking garages etc. and actually has a better turning radius. But the real enhancement over the Maverick is the FSD- That is hands down YEARS beyond any other car manufacturers self driving/ adaptive cruise technology.

While I agree it’s also why Tesla is something special. It’s grown through social media and essentially free marketing. Sure Tesla could create ads or get a big slot on a prime time network ….. but why? There is honestly no need the Tesla niche is above all other dealerships. Tesla doesn’t just have tons of inventory taking up lot and dead space. Tesla are a direct to consumer purchase. No huge markups as your trying to close at a typical dealership.

Tesla has done it right imo

Meh, Tesla sells by word of mouth, they've not relied on MSM ads since inception. One of the reasons the MSM seems to HATE Tesla is IMHO that they don't get the massive advertising $$$ they get from other manufacturers. Investors have debated this for years, fair point on both sides....
