Aeroflap meets glass roof issue! This should have been sealed better by Tesla, not by the cat guy on youtube, and not by everyone CT owner who got a leaky bed and is on the verge of taking matters into their own hands because of “within spec”.

Can’t agree more . Especially given it’s one of the most expensive trucks out there .

Are you able to post the tesla work order for this. That would be very helpful.
Didn’t even look at the work order until now. Looks like they just added a slat. The sealant must’ve been there before, but I didn’t notice!

I guess it’s a hit or miss, that’s the exact same parts they replaced on mine and yet water intrusion from the top applique was still an issue so just had to fix it myself. Though everyone is right, Tesla should fix it. It’s not even a big fix, the rubber seal, which slides in the channel of the applique just needs to be thicker for at least 1/8”.

Is that the new seal you replaced it with? Did you go off a youtube video or figure it out yourself, bed in the background looks pretty wet :(

No that’s the OEM seal that they have. I was just showing the difference in size and the reason why water is getting through. The water you see is prior to me taking it apart, testing the oem seal first.
Attached is the additional seal I used. I cut one side, sandwiched the OEM seal and slid it back in. Just imagine the tip of the screwdriver as the oem seal. Ribbed side up towards exterior.

It will be a tight squeeze but it’s actually what you want. If you look at my previous pics, the biggest gap is about 3/8” and the oem seal is only a 1/4”.

Very interesting, so you used that on the tonneau applique that you took off with the two torques bolts?

Nice, may give that a try after this next service appointment if I get the "in spec"
Assume it made quite the water ingress difference?

No more water leak. Bone dry inside the vault.

Very nice, this fix makes more sense and gives me more confidence than the others I have seen. Did you run the weatherstripping just on the side the buts up against the glass roof, or on the sides and rear of the tonneau applique also?

Just up the glass but a little extra. The sides are tight that you can’t get additional seal in (you can see it just by looking on top even without the applique removed how the OEM seals are compressed on the sides-you can always try though) plus any water gets there drips in between the walls where there is an airgap, or in this case a watergap, I think as part of water management between side walls of the vault.

You can’t do the rear of the tonneau cover if I think I understand what you mean. The part of the applique that touches the cover is just a dust brush and nut a rubber seal. That doesn’t do anything for water tightness. The culprit of the main leak is where the roof meets.

Thanks, does that weatherstripping stick up a little between the applique and the glass? Next time you are out by your truck if you can shoot a picture of what it looks like now that you have it put together, assuming based on the screwdriver picture the rubber comes out and over the applique a bit.

Nothing is sticking out where the glass roof meets cause you have that “channel” / gap where the seal will fit in. If you do decide to seal the ends though you will have seal sticking out cause the ends do not have that channel. You can see in the pic where I ended the additional seal. Maybe one of these days when I’m bored I’ll take it apart again and extend the seal all the way to the ends just to see if I can get away with it tucking it neatly so it’s seamless and not so obvious.
