Do the manual door latches not work after an accident?

Read the family's statement, and once again, a person trapped inside, trying to get out.

My bet is that driver did not even know about the manual latches!

The fire/burning aspect of this and the amount of smoke (inside car? And outside) are startling in a Tesla...and i am surprised this much fire even when the main battery has not caught fire (yet).

https://www.latimes.com/sports/usc/story/2025-04-24/usc-recruit-alijah-arenas-injured-in-car-crash

Alijah Arenas, the Chatsworth High star and crown jewel of USC’s incoming recruiting class, was involved in a serious Cybertruck accident on Thursday morning, a person familiar with the situation not authorized to discuss it publicly told The Times.

Arenas was in a Tesla Cybertruck early Thursday morning, when the vehicle lost control near the corner of Corbin Avenue and Blythe Street in Reseda. The crash occurred at 4:56 a.m., when the Cybertruck struck a fire hydrant and tree. The 18-year-old driver was pulled from the wreckage of the vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital and was stable, according to LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes. A source told The Times that drugs and alcohol were not involved in the crash.

Arenas was placed in a coma, a person with knowledge of the crash told The Times. ESPN’s Shams Charania was the first to report the crash and Arenas’ condition.

Hours after the crash, the Cybertruck was taken from the scene and burst into flames at a tow yard. According to a source, the Los Angeles Fire Hazard Mat responded to the ensuing hazardous materials incident.

Alijah is the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, who canceled plans to stream a new episode of his online show Thursday. His mother, Laura Govan, posted on Instagram shortly after asking for “all your … prayers”.

The vehicle lost control not him? Was it in self driving mode?

Incorrect. The bystander is reaching his arms into the cabin to see if anyone else is inside (due to low visibility). We know he wasn't pulling out the driver because the camera immediately pans to the ground and the driver is already laying there.
Dude…The video was edited…notice how the video “jumped” b/w frames?

See Post #61 above. Straight from bystander mouth!! Or are you saying the bystander who pulled driver out is wrong?

Stop arguing about this! :D

I’ll bet you’re right. How long had he had it? Plus he had just been concussed. If he had a slight knowledge of the manual latch, he may not have remembered it while he was dazed. It will be interesting to see if he gets another cybertruck when he recovers. I definitely would.

I’m glad my parents made me drive a Toyota station wagon.
My “car” my parents got me was a bike. I bought my first car and every subsequent one - MYSELF!

Good news, he is out of the induced coma.

"Alijah Arenas, son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, is reportedly out of his induced coma some 24 hours after being involved in a serious car accident."

**My bad, just saw this was previously posted
