Hi All,

This thread is directed to all the Cybertruck owners (in particular, owners of more recent builds in the last few months).

I'm at a point where I will be buying a new vehicle in the next few months. For the last year, I had no doubt that it'd be the Cybertruck. But lately, I've started to get a bit worried about the reliability of the truck. This will be my only vehicle. I would drive it everywhere and everyday. Although I (desperately!!!) want this truck, I can't buy something that's going to be in the service center every few months for weeks at a time. And I also see reports of the vehicle just randomly getting bricked for silly things and having to get towed all the time.

I knew that since this was a new vehicle, it was perfectly reasonable for there to be quite a few issues that would need to be ironed out after the vehicle release. But now we are almost two years in and it doesn't seem the issues are ironed out enough. Of course when you research it on the news, everyone likes to exaggerate how the cybertruck never works. However, they are all biased so who knows how much those can really be trusted. But even in here where the bias is probably in the other direction, I see quite a few reports from owners saying they are randomly not working, etc. My hope is that maybe 10% of Cybertrucks have issues but 90% of them work perfectly fine and are just as reliable as Tesla's other vehicles.

So my question for Cybertruck owners (particularly ones with newer builds where the issues might be less common):

>>>> Is the Cybertruck reliable or are you constantly having to take this thing in for service and constantly having issues where it doesn't work? If you were speaking to a potential owner (me) whose priority is an electric vehicle that is reliable, would you recommend the Cybertruck?

Again, I desperately want the Cybertruck. But I'm worried that is my emotions speaking and not my brain. And perhaps I should just go for the performance version of the new Model Y whenever that version is released..... because it's reliable.

I have owned a 2014 model S 60, 2016 S 90, 2018 model x, 2020 model X and 2024 model x. Traded ‘20 X for the FS awd end of 2024, now still have X 2024. Took it to service 1x for ‘front motor disable’ alert that appeared 1 time for which they replaced an inverter. This is the most fun/sturdied/king of the road amongst all my other rides. No other issues as reported on the news. It’s my daily driver and I still look forward to every ride!

You ask for more recent builds but I have a track record I can share. Next month it will be a year that I have had my Foundation CT.

Been to the service center one time & that’s because my $2,500 voucher supplies came in.
I waited an 45min for them to strap in my tire and I was gone. Have not been back to service since.

I use my truck every day.
Plug in at night and charge from 12am - 4am.
Very cost efficient.

Once I got over my “range anxiety” I just hop in the CT & drive then plan charging as I go.

I see you’re from beautiful CO. There may be a few more bricks in your state for Teslas than in the Gulf south where I live.

I get more thumbs up than middle fingers so I don’t worry about my car getting vandalized.

Oh, and I have not been back to the oil change garage in a year.

Just passed the 1 year mark on my Foundation AWD last week, I've had no service issues with it at all. Even for the recalls (wiper motor, pedal rivet, etc.), none had actually caused me any issues.

It's by far the most fun vehicle to drive I've ever owned, I still smile every day I walk into my garage.

Short answer is that I wouldn’t have another truck. This is my 5th truck. No vehicle has all the features of the CT. One trip to service ‘cause tonneau would close then open about a foot. They cleaned and lubricated the rails and no more problems. Tonneau leaks a bit, but they never claimed it was waterproof. There are fixes for that when I get around to it. My grand son quipped when they were talking about who might inherit the CT; Poppop Wil be buried in that truck! ?

The Cybertruck has always been Elon's vision which Franz created. Its amazing. Like life in general, the haters come out when something is different. We all like different and we are not haters.

With Elon about to sign a replacement comp package good for 5-10 more years, there is no chance the Cybertruck will be cancelled. Then lets talk evolution like any vehicle, especially a brand new ground breaking, history making design, this is a great truck. More tweaks, adv battery chem, after market accessories, etc will MCTGA Make Cybertruck Great Again. Its never stopped and never will. Great post and community. Keep it up guys. Mine is on the horizon.

You'll be fine. Go to any car forum and you'll find people's nightmares. If you got the vehicle you're afraid of getting, you'd lemon it. And it definitely isn't 10% of trucks with issues.

Agree and to add on to what others have said - the number of trucks with issues is very low, nowhere near 10%. You'll find plenty of threads discussing this, but realize this is a first-generation truck, there will be problems. I would suggest to you that with the current discounts Tesla is offering, do a lease if you can. That might be the best of both worlds and help with your "emotions" vs "brain" battle.

I have a 42XXX VIN NFS, a little over 6 months and 13K miles on it. I’ll put another thousand miles on it by the end of this weekend and have no worries about it making the trip. It’s never been to service or had anything wrong with it whatsoever. Well, one of the tires picked up a nail and I had discount tire plug it, but I’ll give Tesla a pass on that one.

Same tonneau cover issue as mentioned above. Repaired in one visit. Initial fitment and finish issues. Repaired in one visit. Firmware issue causing the car to falsely report faults with the rear motors. Self resolved after a maximum of 30 minutes (basically hard reboot).

I would consider all of these to be minor as the tonneau cover still worked, it’s just that it wasn’t staying closed automatically and I had to hold the button a little bit longer I could’ve gone on like that forever.

But, let’s be clear, this is not like you’re buying a Renault Alliance, Yugo or some other bona fide piece of shit reliability nightmare— irrespective of what the FUDsters and haters would have you believe.

I’m not a sunshine and rainbows sycophant. Can anybody certify that your car is going to be perfect? No. Should you be afraid to buy one? Hell no!

I’ve had my all-wheel drive since December and zero issues, been very reliable. Well there was that one time I drifted the crap out of it on bumpy terrain in Baja mode and got all sorts of warnings but nothing a quick reset didn’t fix lol. Otherwise every single service visit, about three of them, have been for cosmetic reasons. I’ve literally had zero trips or visits from service due to any mechanical or even software related issues.

My foundation AWD has also been ROCK solid. only service center trips have been minor comfort niggles and they have given me a pretty cushy loaner car with free supercharging every time it’s been in.

You should add a poll to this post to get accurate input.

I bought a Foundation Cyberbeast made in August 2024 (VIN 26###). Picked it up in September 2024. Since then, I've put over 10,000 miles on it, driving from Michigan to the Gulf of America, and over to the Atlantic Ocean, and back. I've even taken it into Canada and survived. It's been 99.9% reliable.

3 minor Issues:

1) I noticed a small <1mm bubble inside my front windshield after picking it up that caught the light in certain conditions. I mentioned it to them and Tesla replaced the entire windshield!
2) In winter months, the back passenger door would leak air slightly when driving > 75MPH. If I rolled the window down slightly, it would seal up. Now that the weather has warmed up, no more leaking air.
3) I get a bit of water in the truck bed after I take it through car washes. Not much, just a bit near the tailgate. I simply open the tailgate after and wipe it down.

The above are the only issues I have experienced in 10,000 miles. It's been very reliable. It powered my home in a blackout for several hours via the Powershare Home Backup panel. FSD has been a gamechanger (although the last couple updates have seemed to be a downgrade in accuracy). My wife says it drives better than I do.

Very happy with my purchase!!!
