I have requested an appointment from SC and read sometime ago in another post that they were reconditioning wheels damaged by wheel covers and sent the pictures to them hoping I would get the same treatment. Little I know, they have sent me this estimate of $3587,96.
WHAT?
Does anyone had recent experience like this I wonder?

Maybe wash the brake/road dust off so we can see just the scratches?

This.

Your “damage” may be only be dust-deep. Your wheels are crazy dusty. That’s coming from a Texan, New Jersey guy, just keep that in mind. Run ‘er through a car wash every now and then.

I think scratches is going to be the sacrifice of using them unfortunately. I was told all models have this issue? This is my first Tesla so not sure. I did ask while at the SC. I wish I knew that ahead of time to make decision. I just leave them on now and accept it ..lol

Mine looks the same. I went to two SC's about the scratched wheels. They both essentially stated that there is nothing that can be done with the wheel covers; they've tried different combinations of rubber, felt, and plastics, but everything ultimately wears down the wheels. Either leave them on and don't worry about the scratches, or stop using the covers and fix the wheels.

That’s NJ for you believe me or not I wash it like every other week. I was taking off covers to give a good bath to the wheels as well but the damage gets worse so I give up. If I can somehow can them reconditioned I am never putting them back on again

Your other option is to buy take-offs from eBay or offer-up; I got a like new set with 2-3 hundred miles for 1,400k. This included Rims,TMPS,&tires.

Local wheel repair guys can likely fix for under 500. I've seen much worse be repaired to brand new for less.

Should looks okay once it’s completely cleaned off.

If minor scratches still bother you a lot and you don’t plan to use covers anymore, there are places you can refinish those rims for a lot less.

I recently went in to check on why there’s squeaky sounds coming from my Core Wheel covers. Basically the metal clasp and the even the plastic was rubbing on the rims like you see on yours.

All they had to do was wrap the connection points with some electrical fabric tape and it was all good. I think this would also prevent the rims from getting as scratched as much too. Give it a try!

Well at purchase “Day One” take them off or never take them off.

But “yes” they will wear deep cuts in the rim over time where the metal clips contact the rim.

Unfortunately, it’s a common Tesla fact we all must accept.

$3587,96. to repair, I would just slap the covers back on and think of it as a battle scar.
