I’m coming down to decision time: I have solar, 2x Powerwall 2, Tesla backup gateway, and UWC. I’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on a CT for the software update which will enable PowerShare. If I wait till it’s released, I may miss $7500 lease incentive/tax credit. If you were me, would you pull the trigger now to be sure you get the credit, or wait to be sure the software update comes out by end of Q3 as promised? I won’t hold anyone responsible for whatever decision I make based on your responses lol

Tesla may or may not release the software update you are waiting for. Remember they just sent the battery extender into oblivion - Tesla giveth and Tesla taketh away.

7500 bucks discount if you can get it is real and you have it now.

If you're set on getting the CT, seems easy decision.

Why is Powershare so critical to the purchase?
I'd buy now.

Thanks for quick responses! PowerShare is the biggest reason I’d buy a CT over, say, a model Y. I love Tesla in general and want FSD, so any model would be great. Significant bonus for CT would be PowerShare to provide extended backup during outage at home. Hard to justify extra cost without PowerShare.

I'm highly confident the software will come given they have solar + PowerShare working now.

We love our Cybertruck, have gone off roading and sand dunes which wouldn't have happened with a Y.

There is also the option of the bed outlets or isolated PowerShare, worst case.

Buy the truck! You can install a generator input with an interlock to your house's electric mains that would allow you to switch off city power and then plug the generator connection into the 240V outlet in the truck's bed. This would allow you to power your house with the truck without using PowerShare (for 12 hours at a whack it seems as the outlets turn themselves off after 12 hours according to the manual. I have not tested that.). Like you, one of many selling points on the truck for me is the promised PowerShare. We are in the process of installing solar and a power wall at our house, down to waiting for the last permit to come through. I added the generator input and interlock to the design for the same reason others have suggested: Tesla may further delay or potentially renig on their promise of PowerShare, which would be a huge disappointment and could open them up for lawsuits.

Apologies if I misunderstand the issue, but what do you gain by waiting for the PowerShare software update in Q3? Even if it’s Q3, Q4 or Q1 2026, what do you lose by purchasing now and taking the credit?

What credit? I can’t use PowerShare right now because it’s not enabled for solar+Powerwall systems, is my understanding. So I don’t have the added value of home backup from the CT. Cost of CT is significantly lower than equivalent kWh from powerwalls.

Sorry, I meant the $7500 lease/tax incentive you mentioned. Purchase the CT now, take the credit/incentive and anything you lose in terms of home backup value until the update occurs, will be significantly less than the $7500 credit you’ll gain by purchasing now. I hope that “math”, “maths.” Hahaha

Buy it now.

I'm in a similar situation. I have Tesla solar, two PW+s, and a Universal Wall Charger. I bought the Cybertruck in March and I'm waiting for powershare.

Ah yeah I get it-sorry for missing the obvious. Good point! But I do feel Tesla is going to have to do something after Q3 to at least partially make up for the tax credit going away. Even now, they off the $7500 incentive on leases when those don’t qualify for the tax credit.

We love our Cybertruck, have gone off roading and sand dunes which wouldn't have happened with a Y.
Over last weekend, the campgrounds were so busy I was eyeing the over-the-sand campsites in Oregon because all of them had Sunday slots open and figuring out if I should try grabbing some traction boards and trundle my Mazda out there.

Ended up finding a released spot at Cape Perpetua instead on our way back down the coast which wasn't a prime camp spot, but it was open!

I hear ya! I had a chance to pick up a CT in December of 2023 as an early reservation holder and decided to hedge my bet and hold off a year, to see if any incentives would come out. Fast forward to December 2024 and I purchased with supercharging for life.

Best of luck either way!
