Don't know if this was posted before or not, but someone did a review of the AWD vs the RWD. I think they stripped out too many things from the truck for not enough savings, but that's my opinion.
Not my video btw :

That pretty much sums it up lol. The RWD is for people who are seriously scraping the bottom of the barrel to get into one of these. If there’s any chance of affording the AWD, one should absolutely go with that.

People were counting on a non-stripped down version (other than having a single motor instead of dual) for $61K. What they’ve come up with here should at least meet that price if not be in the mid to high 50s, but $70K?

Completely agree with you, for that price I'd rather have a used AWD with all the goodies. The rwd version should be in the low $50k range.

The RWD would be a lot easier to put a big lift kit on since no air suspension.. Kinda a Baja pre-runner setup!

It would still handle out of this world with 4WS + steer by wire.

I thought Tesla would make 2 models to simplify “the line”. 3 motor and dual motor. Then sell the dual motor with front motor software killed which would be single motor with the option to “buy AWD” for $10k or some amount.

I am very excited to get my Long Range RWD!

Have been reading the forums for few months and finally joined.

I test drove both AWD and RWD numerous times and enjoyed driving both. After thorough consideration, decided on the RWD. I like the minimalistic, lowest price, and longest range. The only thing I really would have liked is a second motor option. Hopefully in future, there will be a Long Range AWD model.

I think of the RWD as an 'RS' model. However without upcharge. :)

Tesla should have kept the bed vault on the RWD trim. It's not even an option, only the cheesy soft cover is available.

The option to get the conventional suspension and no bed vault would be very attractive to someone building an overlanding rig. I agree that an option to get this trim with both motors would make sense. Frankly, I would have seriously considered that setup. Everything you need, nothing you don’t

I didn’t realize there was no smugglers bay. Also it’s called L-Track, and it’s not magnetic closing(sorry that bothered me)

I think the lack of the 2nd motor and losing the weight from the tonneau cover is actually what makes it a long range... Less weight and less motors drawing power = longer range. I don't think they did anything different to it other than strip it down to get more range.

As compared to this….hell no.

Serious incentives would have to happen for me to even consider it.

I also wanted to add a video of the Soft Tonneau - both looks and in-action.

Yes, it's the removal of components and front motor, lower weight, and smaller wheels that saves power. I think and in my use case, some of things are unnecessarily powered, which is nice to have, but eats into the battery. On a gas truck is no issue. However, one thing I was surprised none of trim has is a powered tailgate (New Tacoma has that even).

I am thinking an updated battery will arrive next year and a Long Range AWD will be very nice.

Overall, Cybertruck is about the engineering underneath that normal buyers don't geek over except myself and technical folks. ie. 30X cold roll stainless steel, chassis, 48V architecture, etherloop, SBW, 4WS, neural network FSD.

I'm sure they will be constantly improving over time. How much of that the CT will see, who knows, its a low sales volume item. If the RWD works for your use then by all means, I was in no way trying to talk it down, you'll still love every minute in the truck, I just feel like they stripped out more than 10k of savings (it should be cheaper) and I'd rather have the extras over that amount. My opinion doesn't matter in what makes you happy. For my use case, I wanted all the bells and whistles, I've used beast mode probably 2x, do I need it - no... Did I want it, yes. To each his own.

Not my video btw :

RWD are good for one thing, driving to and from the Pharmacy, and at the dump or worksite.

If you’re gonna order a rear wheel drive truck you might as well just drive a station wagon or a minivan.

The 4 x 4 (AWD) is a real truck and only way to go.
