My new 2026 Premium CT was scheduled to be picked up today at the SC. I’ve been waiting approx 6 weeks from order date.

I got a call about 1 hr before the appointment, letting me know that Tesla froze all deliveries nationwide due to a software update that needed to be performed to the vehicle before turning it over to the buyer. Per the service tech, this applies to all CT’s of recent production. They hope the update will be released today, so I can pick it up tomorrow. It all sounds fishy to me and makes me think there is something larger they are dealing with. Has anyone experienced something similar with a SC?

I'm guessing they're confused.

Tesla just issued recall SB-26-00-016 to address an issue with the backup camera, by pushing an OTA update. They legally cannot deliver new vehicles with a pending recall, so the software update must be applied first.

However, this recall does not apply to the Cybertruck...

Just saw this today. My CT does not apply, but maybe they are scrambling at the SC’s to manage the hard recall.

BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published 02:52 PM EDT, May 8, 2026

Tesla is recalling 173 Cybertrucks because cracking in the rotor could cause the wheel stud to separate from the wheel hub, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

The recall includes model year 2024-2026 Cybertrucks with 18-inch steel wheels. In its report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that rough roads and cornering may strain the stud hole in the wheel rotor causing cracks to form and with continued driving the wheel stud could eventually separate from the wheel hub.

Wheel stud separation may affect vehicle controllability, increasing the risk of a collision.

On affected vehicles, Tesla will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts with more durable ones at no cost to vehicle owners.

The manufacturer's recall number is SB-26-33-003

That was for the short lived RWD version.

Don’t mean to be a stickler to point out the obvious but for not being able to sell these maybe they shouldn’t have shutdown/slowed the assembly plant?

NO ONE SHOULD BE HAVING TO WAIT!!!

Come on we can produce 250k a year.

Get hot!

At least I'm not the only one. I don't feel quite as singled out now lol

My delivery was scheduled for tomorrow (5/09/26) in Louisville, KY. It's the AWD Premium CT. I just received a call this evening by a Tesla Adviser stating it has to be delayed pending an inspection flag that he sees in the system. He said he can't see what the inspection is for as he is in Sales but that when Service comes in on Monday, he'll provide me with an update on next available delivery date/time.

I certainly don't want to take delivery of a new CT and then have to turn right around and schedule service because it left the factory with recall. I'm pretty bummed though to be told the night before my delivery that it needs an inspection so I'll need to reschedule.

Well, that sounds related to what the tech said to me today. Must be nation wide. I am still holding on to the chance that my new delivery appointment will be successful tomorrow (at noon). I’m really bummed that this happened. I was looking forward to driving it this weekend. I also have a tint appointment on Tuesday that I hope I don’t have to reschedule. Fingers crossed…..

Come on we can produce 250k a year.
Tesla would need to pay for another production line to be able to reach 250K a year.

The highest installed annual production capacity for the Cybertruck that Tesla has ever reported in its quarterly earnings release slide decks is the same as the most recent one: >125,000 units (at Giga Texas).

Tesla first included a specific installed capacity figure for the Cybertruck in its official shareholder/update slide decks starting with the Q3 2023 earnings release (listed as >125,000 under “pilot production” status at Giga Texas). This exact number has remained unchanged in every subsequent quarterly deck through at least Q1 2026, where it continues to appear as >125,000 under “production” status (alongside other Texas lines like Model Y at >250,000).

It should be understood that a production capacity of 125,000 is more of a theoretical maximum. It assumes no downtime for the production line for maintenance, no breakdowns, no supply chain hiccups, no anything. Tesla has often said that the production capacity is never realized, even when they want to make as many as possible. That said, since the 125,000 is accompanied by a ">" sign, it might be possible to hit close to 125,000 if everything went perfect for an entire year (and demand was sufficient to move them all). But 250,000 is literally impossible without an expensive new production line.

Tesla would be unlikely to spend the money building a new Cybertruck production line without convincing data that demand growth not only was there, but that it had persistence. If demand grew to greater than 125,000 annually, Telsa would likely first consider raising the price to keep demand in balance with actual production capacity before making the big investments to double production capacity. Wait times would grow, along with profits. Only when they had confidence that demand would continue to grow would they make the investments.

UPDATE: The SC tech called this morning and pushed my CT pickup date to Wednesday. At first he was vague on why the additional delay, but when I pushed him he said it was due to all CT’s pending delivery needing a firmware update so they can receive the latest software version. He said that “regions” of the country were behind and catching up specifically for CT’s. He made it sound like a routine issue, but my sense is that it is not. I may be wrong since this is my first time with a CT. Frustrating….. Nothing like this happened when I purchased my 3 a few years ago.

I received my Beast yesterday in Ft. Worth without any issues at all. I picked up around 4 central. They didn’t mention anything at all to me. 🤷‍♂️
