So I wanted to look under the front panel in the frunk, to make sure the windshield washer hose was correctly attached, and that the front nuts were secure for the upper facia.

That all looked fine, however, I saw the loose bolt shown in the top middle of the below photo. Then I noticed what looked like oil in the casting of the windshield washer motor.

I concluded the oil was brake fluid, when I saw some on the outside of the brake fluid reservoir, which was not attached to anything but a brake line. You can just see the corner of the brake fluid reservoir in the upper right of the picture.

It turns out the bolt goes in the hole in the lower left of the photo, to secure the brake fluid reservoir. I installed it with some Loctite, and gave the rest of the truck a good inspection. I’ve not found any other problems.

I’ve been pretty happy with the build quality of my Vin 4603 truck, but this is no bueno.

Wait, was the brake fluid leaking? Reservoir not attached at all or just missing a screw?

there is brake fluid outside of the reservoir, not sure if it got there via leak or as part of the installation process. I’ll clean it up so I can tell if any fresh brake fluid comes out.

The brake fluid reservoir was not attached at all, I speculate it was uninstalled to get at something else and never reinstalled (until now).

How to take that frunk apart to see the reservoir? I suspect something like that on mine as I opened frunk today and had some oil in it, coming from behind frunk wall.

Most likely a local service tech forgot to bolt it back on after doing a recall service.

My first service appointment was after finding this issue. Only recall service was the accelerator pedal rivet done before delivery.

They could have done the wiper motor recall before it was delivered.

That would be a good trick, since that recall came out after my delivery.

Here's a video showing removal of the frunk, you probably only need to remove the snap on strip at the back to check for this issue.

Here's how the brake reservoir is supposed to be mounted:

Thank you. Will pop that off today. Tesla chat said it might be lubrication oil but what lubrication would spray the back of the frunk panel?

I popped the top maintenance panel off and it’s not brake fluid as the brake reservoir is on right. This reservoir on the left just seemed like maybe spillage when they added? Anyone know which reservoir that is so I can let Tesla tech know?

that is your coolant reservoir. Disturbing that there is fluid everywhere.
