Rear camera washer / sprayer by ClearVu for Cybertruck

We partnered with ClearVu to launch the rear camera washer for the Cybertruck. The installation isn't complex, but it isn't an easy install due to the fact that you'd have to drill a hole into the steel. Legit took 20+ minutes just to drill a hole. Other than that, the install is tapping into the front washer sprayer line, using a splitter, and running the line to the back. That way, you can spray both cameras at the same time. We have the video launching at noon if you want to see the whole process.



Also, we noticed the pump is very strong, so we are working with ClearVu to see if we can put a dampener to lighten it just a bit. The good news is that it works very well, and I no longer have to worry about a dirty or smudged camera!

Not for me! If I have to drill into the skin of my CT, it is not going to be for a camera wash nozzle!

I' m all for this. Don't get me wrong. Drill baby, drill but it does need to use pH balanced liquid solution to avoid surface staining or.... racing stripes film splash guards to avoid discoloration of stainless steel, doesn't it? ?

I'd recommend at least putting PPF on the tailgate + ceramic coating. That will help with the surface staining. We're also working with ClearVu to dampen it but regardless of how strong, it will still leave a trail unfortunately.

2nd. Use step drill process. Start small, different sizes inbetween then final full size drill bit.

Possible a quick disconnect be added incase sometime later on at some point you have to remove the tailgate.

(Use PVC instead of rubber for long term usage)

Maybe just keep a microfiber towel in the car and wipe off the camera lens? Definitely not drilling into the truck for that.

I have to comment on this and differ with you. Drilling stainless is easy and will take 10 seconds - once you are doing it correctly. That means a suitable metal cutting bit, a good cutting oil, and the bit turning at the correct speed.

Just putting a bit in a drill and going at it is a fail and a ruined bit.

But with the right bit and oil, you'll be cutting it like butter, and seeing long twisty shards coming of the cut metal around the drill bit.

Also - an obvious caution but worth repeating - NEVER drill into a car without knowing what if anything, is on the back side or interior of where you are putting a hole. You really do not want to drill into a wire harness, an AC coil, etc.

I really like the solution, and I am capable of doing this work, but I do not want to do it. I would like to see Tesla offer it as an aftermarket installation like it did for other things, and eventually incorporate it into new Cybertrucks. Of course, when they do, they will have the right amount of pressure and fluid delivered to the rear camera.

I think that Tesla will come out with an option. I hope this expedites it so keep asking Tesla about it!

I’m sure this improvement will be coming from the factory along with other minor improvements.

I also read something about a hold on CT’s due to the windshield wiper motor(?)
