It did the right thing if it emergency brakes would have been a disaster …my wife was like what was that ….she did not even realize we hit a deer this was on the NYS thruway at rush hour on Friday night heavy volume
Oh no. Sorry to hear that. No deer scenario can be saved by ANY camera. Been hit twice. One was a santa encounter experience free with galloping demon coming from the side onto my Mercedes and going airborne. They have good car tastes. ??

When I park in my driveway, I tried to park as close to the fence as possible so that my wife can get her car in and not give me shit about it.

The model s, it's always been pretty easy and I guess I'm not yet used to the truck even though I've had it for a month.

So today, I got a little too close to the fence and boy did it mess up the truck. We're not talking about running into the fence directly but trying to back up and then I got a little too close and then one of the panels got caught in the post and it really messed up the post but it bent as well. Check out the pictures.

Bear in mind that this is parking speeds, very low speed. Judging from the post, that's some serious damage so if this were a person, they'd be pretty messed up.

I tried to bend that panel back with my hands and it's impossible. I tried to pliers and it's impossible.

There's this dude that happens to have a body shop across the street from the co-working space where I go to and I'm going to go and see if he can bend it back in place enough to make it look normal again.

The rear quarterpanel is a steel subframe with the stainless attached via structural adhesive. It's not impossible to bend it back, but cosmetic perfection will be difficult to achieve with HFS, almost certainly cheaper to replace the whole panel.

You could park next to something solid like a large metal pole, put a block of wood against the truck and use a hydraulic bottle jack against the pole pushing on the block and try to jack against it to see if that moves it back into position.

@Zantosh76, the beauty of bolted on Stainless Steel panels are, they are just bolted on Stainless Steel panels! No need for matching paint, welding, etc.

Most of the parts for the Cybertruck have been really reasonable. I'd reach out to Tesla and inquire how much it would be to just replace it. I bet you'll be surprised...
Aren't the panels welded onto the frame?

I did something very similar in my CT, backing into the driveway at night. But I clipped the side of my house (brick finish). Didn't bend the quarter panel as much as yours, but also tore up the bumper a bit. It's at a Tesla collision center now being worked on. They gave a 3-5 week estimate for getting the replacement parts. Total estimate is about $3500. I really do wish they would provide proximity sensor warning with the cameras, like they do on all of their cars.

I would suggest taking the panel to a machine shop. They may have bending equipment hefty enough to do the job.

What would you expect with almost 600HP AWD and, more importantly, 525 lb ft of torque at VERY low RPM, thanks to the characteristics of an electric motor. You press on that little pedal and it moves whatever happens to be in its way (or if the whatever doesn't move, it bends metal on your truck).

From what another guy said, he paid about $2.7k to get it fixed. I'm guessing a good part of that is labor. I'm hoping they have a panel or if I can get it bent back, I can live with it for now.

Definitely not possible to bend it back with any regular tools. I'll see if body shop can bend it back with their big equipment.

I'm actually quite ok leaving it with the "injury". Did you notice the metal has no scratches?

I hope they add a proximity warning soon like the other Tesla models have. It's difficult to judge where the corners are.
Totally agree this is needed. I have a model S and X and one additional thing I noticed is the front and rear view camera feeds depth perception is not as good. I still don’t truck the rear camera view in the Cybertruck when backing up.

The panels are clipped and glued onto the frame so they're actually reasonably easy to remove, or that's what I've been led to believe. I think the point is that I'm not going to be able to remove it, I'll need somebody who knows what they're doing to remove it but once it's removed, there is the possibility of flattening it out but it's not going to be factory perfect but I'm okay with that. I have a body shop here, that dude loves the cybertruck so I'm going to take it to him and see if he can give it a little more love.

Yes, to be honest with you, I was so carefully backing up and it was that time of the evening where the sun is coming down and so it's easy to not see how close you are and I usually get pretty close to the fence and I'm good but this was that one moment where I got a little too close and it caught and I heard the sound so I immediately stopped and moved but you're right about the torque, you don't have to touch the gas pedal very much for it to move and it really does move and there you have it, and my fence post is a mess.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I have a left fender scrape on my MY left there while backing up and turning left. (Sorry for all the lefts). The fence just didn't budge. So I really feel bad for you.
But I'm serious about the machine shop. Just drive there and have them look at it. They'll be crazy excited to work on it. Machinists love work that requires a little creativity. And they'd love to work on a CB. Take some pictures of them fixing it.
Cybertruck. The only vehicle you take to a machine shop to get fixed.
