Have any of us waiting here been tempted by the second generation announcement of the specifications of the Rivian R1s? Specs have acceleration of the quad motor targeting cyberbeast at 2.5 to 2.6 seconds from 0 to 60. And more importantly, range up to 420 miles. Availability is 2025 pricing on the top spec quad motor is TBD.

It’s definitely not a cybertruck, but I imagine there’s probably a good amount of cross shopping in this category as personally if I do not end up liking the cyberbeast longer-term, I would likely end up with one of these. Curious of others thoughts?

I updated my comparison table to include the new Rivian R1T Gen 2. Impressive set of changes.

Attached the comparison PDF of features from Gen 1 to Gen 2

Personally I'm not buying a Cybertruck because it is electric and if it wasn't for Tesla's supercharging network I wouldn't buy electric at all. I'm buying the Cybertruck because of the technology both now and in the future. Rivian appears to make a nice truck, haven't seen on in person but did a lot of research. They are yet to be profitable and are bleeding cash. That would make me a bit worried. But who knows what the future will bring.

2.5 sec and 420 miles don't go together! Rivian makes good products but like Apple products, ecosystem is more important to me, like Supercharger network, software and FSD. The Gen2 Rivian still doesn't come with 800V architecture and NACS connectivity.

The refresh brought a lot of improvements. 600 to be exact.

The one thing Rivian excels at is listening to customers. Except for some exterior lighting and camera location changes the exterior is identical to the 2022-2024 generation. Virtually all of the improvements are under the skin that the buyer will never see.

I think Rivian should have addressed the fugly front end during the refresh. It turns off a lot of potential buyers.

I had a R1T Gen 1 of course and it was a disaster, was in the shop 4 out of 6 months owned it almost I'd say. Nervous about another anytime but know they simplified electronics some at least. The interior was super nice overall but still not up to BMW standards or anything, and the tech looked good but functioned poorly.

The CT is I'd say quieter, definitely more high tech that is usable, and while it seems delicate in some ways with trim and such at least the rest of the truck is pretty solid. The Rivian was very thin sheetmetal, the tailgate was also behind in standards (like CT) compared to Ford/GMC, top piece of it required tape to avoid ripping it off when unloading, etc. The bed was VERY small feeling to the point it wouldn't serve its purpose as a truck enough. The frunk was much better of course that CT but that doesn't define a truck fully still (wished all were like the one on Lightening or GMC Hummer, etc.) that were much larger.

Looks of course is the big difference between these two as well, R1T is much more traditional but some still don't like the odd front lights while others love them. CT is of course much more polarizing even with a love/hate aspect.

Price is better, but feel like you get a little less for it, even though range is much better and more accurate. But its more range than I need even 99% of the time, and for the other 1% the SC network is superior still.

This was documented May 18, 2024 in on their site so the timeframe is known.
2025 like other manufacturers. Supposedly designed in so you can swap it in on the production line.
The North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector used on Superchargers is becoming widely adopted across the industry, so starting in 2025 our vehicles will ship with new, fully integrated NACS hardware.

I do like the new LFP battery pack that comes with the base Dual Motor version. 270 miles of range, increased longevity and can be charged to 100% daily.

That is confusing because there are a lot of features that owners would see and interact with within the cabin.
