Lots of money. It is not Tesla's Premium Internet. It is subcontracted out to carriers to provide the service. GB's of data. Millions of cars. Let folks use the WiFi. They will push some emergency updates via cell networks, but very rare.

And if you are on wifi, most likely parked at home or a favorite place so if the update poops your vehicle, you aren't roadside somewhere. Wifi is also (arguably) more stable/less likely to drop service than cell data.

For 10 years I've gotten all updates Over The Air. My car can't get near any wifi signal. If u turn on wifi?? It gets signal, it will tell the mother ship it's connected. U then get updates over wifi.

Why must it use Wifi instead?
It used to be that way. But once they for nearly a million vehicles on the road, and especially when you include map updates, it gets REALLY expensive. Plus, most people have Wi-Fi sitting around for free anyway.

I don't think that this is quite right. Are you getting ALL the updates? Or just selective recalls?

Yes it's dumb and cheap for Tesla to it this way but I just turn on my hot spot on my phone and it's done if I'm remote. Like now. 3 days away from home towing my airstream through Oregon and down the coast. SAND DUNES!!!

Yes. I have 2013 S, vin 4356. My car can't get into my wifi range. Every update has come OTA. If u have premium connectivity. The mother ship knows every detail about u. PERIOD. If you have FSD. It's reporting to the mothership every day.

I don't understand, I can update my model 3 on the premium connectivity data. I haven't tried it on my CT yet since it's been in Wi-Fi range each update, is this not possible on the CT?

How did you get the update that removed 2G to 3G? That was Wi-Fi only.
Or did the service center do it for you?

If one is getting them pushed they are not receiving each and every update. They are receiving critical updates.

PSA 2013 cars are much different. Just hook up to Wi-Fi and let Tesla do it's job for the Cybertruck.

Guess many don't understand that every 0.50 cents matter when one is a company that needs to turn a profit for infinity.

My buddy got a substantial bonus because he saved $1.00 or so on an OEM car. Ones job is to find those cost savings and implement them.

So it's not being cheap or dumb. It is being smart. Wtf does sand dunes have to do with anything?

You folks crack me up.

At a minimum I would know how to run a company and make it profitable. You sound questionable in that ability, and from another Airstream owner sound like a whiner, that had to just chime in and say you have an Airstream.

You're incapable of recognition of a CEO of a profitable company. In addition to, recognition of good people and by your choice words you're an idiot.
