The local Chevy dealer has had four Silverado EV WT on the lot for two months. Originally priced at $82k. Now discount and tax credit bring them down to $68,800. 200kw battery with over 400mile tested range and 10k tow. Zero to Sixty in 5.5 sec. larger front storage. Spare tire. Center dash display. 4WD Full Independent suspension on Eight lug rims and floating axles.

Downside -No four wheel steering by wire, Stainless, FSD, Cast unibody frame or adjustable air suspension.

I am a day one reserve and sick of waiting nearly five years while the guy down the street was dumb enough to cough up and extra 20k to jump ahead in line.

What am I missing?

I had mine for less than a week and traded it in. The software is horrendous on all of these legacy automakers. I've owned the Lightning, Hummer EV, and most recently the Silverado EV. I thought I would be able to look past the clunky early 2000s software but after experiencing several Tesla's, it's impossible to go back.

Just noticing little things like the CONSTANT annoying hum when the car is on and even just siting still in drive. People say this can be fixed with a software update but "can" is different from "will". That sound alone was a dealbreaker to take a bath in it and trade it in. I hope this info can save someone thousands because I didn't read about that anywhere online or see it in the several YouTube videos I watched on the Silverado. It is absolutely nails on a chalkboard can't-tune-it-out sound.

There's also the fact that you can't adjust the amperage up and down while charging the Silverado. For most city dwellers this probably is a moot point but for people that road trip or rural people like myself, it is annoying to have to lug around another mobile charger that has built in ability to lower the amperage.

From all the many EV vehicles I've driven, Rivian is the only competitor currently to Tesla.

Honestly, you're not wrong at all! Though, I do want to throw in one big negative:
Eventually you'll be able to charge at superchargers for a small premium fee. But for now, I don't believe you can charge that on the Tesla network and that alone is the biggest downside imo.

I also don't understand why legacy auto doesn't put effort into the design of their ev trucks... it's such a sad state of things imo. ANY OTHER ICE truck with specs like that one would be design to look super dope to match it's performance, but nope. Though, if you're like me and don't really care about looks and are focused on the ratio of what it can do vs cost, then I don't see why you shouldn't go for it.

To find an answer, you have to test drive both. CT test drives are on. Go ahead and decide for yourself. If not anything, you will at least know why Chevy is discounting their trucks already to sell more! I haven’t driven Chevy EV truck, so I can’t speak for it, but I was very mad at Tesla for opening up FS for everyone. I reserved CT within few mins of unveiling in 2019. All these years of wait to only see people buy FS whenever they want. Tesla doesn’t give a s*** about early reservation holders; however, they have built an incredible machine. I test drove CT last week. Now I’m a peaceful saint. It outperformed my Porsche in every aspect, and I test drove AWD. I can’t imagine how Beast is going to be. It’s only going to get better from here, and that my friend is worth the wait! ?

If it'll do everything you need it to at a much lower price, then why not. Some of the downsides that you listed can be seen as good things depending on the person/use, so it's all up to you.

Definitely drive both or even rent them for a couple days to see what's better.

Thanks for your perspective.

Today I took advantage of Cybertruck demo drive at Tesla Littleton, Colorado. Wow what a truck!

The gray Cybertruck interior A+!

I initiated my $100 refund from Chevy.

Oh-- the 200+ KwH battery on the Chevy yes means longer range. But it also means less advantageous driving characteristics due to the weight versus the 124 KwH battery on the Cybertuck. "Dumb range" as Lucid calls it; I agree.

Software, number one reason. While I’d kill to have CarPlay on my Tesla, I settle for their software, and it’s miles ahead of any car maker. I work in software with many people have come from other Ford and Dodge software divisions, and they say it’s a total mess. I do t mean what just available to the user. How far behind they are with infrastructure, and security. I know Tesla isn’t perfect, but they at least have frequent updates.
Chevy knows how to build a car, 100+ years of experience, but they don’t know software, and they are making bad decisions, removing CarPlay and Android auto, for their own version. Where they can track and sell you ads(this is a real thing) they see where you drive and can now sell that to google and show you ads to places you go.
Telsa knows software, but doesn’t have the experience of making cars, but they are getting better. Look at the CyberTruck and new model 3.

Also that truck is hideous, so is the CyberTruck, but in its own beautiful way. That should look more like a truck, Ford did a better job with the lightning. There is a reason they‘ve Sitting on the lot for 2 months.

But I say cancel it, you’ll probably complain anyway, and there are still a lot of us waiting.

The Silverado weighs a whopping 2,350lbs more than the CT. Think about how that will effect the efficiency and handling.

You gain the advantage of being able to tow an inefficient camper trailer 150+ miles. But then you have to sit in a charging station for how long to refill that giant battery? 2 hours?

There's a reason they cant get these things off the lot.

I received a call from local Chevy dealer offering me one, but even he couldn't in good conscience recommend I buy it, since his dealership was opting out of the EV program, and thus he wouldn't be able to service the beast even if I did buy it. This was going to be around 85K for a barebones work truck without any upgrades or features.

I got my $100 refund.
