My so,union is to get a WiFi garage door adapter, I got one that is HomeKit capable for $50. This also allows me to see if the wood is open or closed, and because it’s HomeKit, I tell Siri to open or close.(this might not be a solution for gates with no WiFi). I’ve also connected it to HomeAssistant(small rasberrypi that connects all smart things together and allows for cool automations) and has the ability to run the automation of open the garage door, when Tesla connects to local WiFi.(haven’t tested this yet)

Homelink doesn't work through metal. That's why Tesla installed the module inside the bumper on the Model Y. Works great there though.
I wonder how they get LTE and 5G signals through. Surly there is plastic somewhere.

I believe in the side mirrors. The Homelink is a single integrated box, probably made by someone else.

Dream all you want; it just isn't there. Tesla is moving away from it.

Yeah. Same with the electrical power. Screw all that. Manual doors, it is!
Cloud based services die every day. Enjoy your Zune music you paid for too...except you can't.

Some people will own nothing and be happy.

Others dont buy that bs.

To each their own.

I think it's promising that the vehicle features list Homelink as not installed. It didn't come installed with our Model Y either and it was a no-brainer paying $350 for it after a week of struggling with MyQ. MyQ is great, especially since it knows the state of the door, but the fact my car was always transitioning from cellular to WiFi in the driveway, meant MyQ failed to respond at the exact time I actually wanted to use it. I would have preferred the Homelink module be included in the $20k FS package, but I'll pay for it if they eventually release one. It's more secure than leaving a garage remote in the car, I'd have to deal with locking it in the glovebox which is a pain.

Sort of like buying a truck intrinsically tied to the health of the company.

But, sure. Nothing lasts forever and we use home link in the Model Y. I buy routers, don't rent them. I merely was pointing out that there really isn't much difference cost-wise. If there's some "oh, the world will end" doom tick, yeah, don't get the subscription.

Agreed.

Cost wise it's impossible to disagree with you. For many use cases it will be cheaper per your analysis (assuming the app company stays in business long enough to make the math matter).

FYI location (on Model Y) of the Homelink transmitter is shown in attached pictures: remove frunk bin to access a space in front upper fender/ hood area. Note the white sticker left/center 2nd pic.

Options for the Cybertruck would be nice.

Yeah, I'd MUCH rather Tesla just offer HomeLink for the Cybertruck like they did for the Model Y. I actually hated MyQ from the start because "I'd rather just pay for the part and own it." I didn't even bother to look into the cost of MyQ. Now, on our 2nd Model Y and our 2nd $350 HomeLink, MyQ actually doesn't look that bad.

One solution would be to buy an after market mirror that has it built in, around $150 on amazon, although seems rough to spend money on mirror that doesn't work 90% or the time. Here is another option that with a little bit of 3d printing, could just replace the current rear view mirror.

I have MyQ. I have the ability to open and close the gate via the app. What I don't have is the ability to get that button in the top corner of the screen to integrate to be able to open a Liftmaster Gate. I have not seen or heard have anyone being able to do that. I have seen the garage door openers, but not the gate.

Do you have any advice or are you referencing the garage door opener? My house has a gate. Then you drive down a driveway and are presented with a garage. I am just trying to get the gate to open.
Does the gate have any connection to open it remotely, like an app and/or API? If so, you can create a geo-location event with the IFTTT setup to trigger it. Might be able to do something with Apple Shortcuts too, less experience there.
