Has anyone asked Tesla service if it is possible to install the Cyberbeast rear drive unit in a dual motor CT?

Or would it make more sense to simply sell/trade-in the dual motor and buy the beast?

I'd say 0% chance Tesla would do it at any price. Maybe possible from a 3rd party at the expense of (most of) your warranty.

You're better off trading it. Sooner rather than later, while depreciation is still unnaturally low due to demand.

If you swapped front also it would be a Cyberbeast.
Only doing the rear would result in all motors being induction rather than one being permanent magnet.

Seems feasible.

You would also need Cyberbeast drive software from Tesla. Or custom software of your own.

Technically almost anything is possible, but no, it's not really feasible. There is no reason to do it that would justify it. Just sell the Dual and buy the Tri. What could be more simple?

Sure, Tesla would need to allow the reconfiguration, but it's very feasible.
As to why, save on sales tax, avoid depreciation, have one set for fun, one set for range. If you found someone who wanted AWD instead of their Beast only cost is labor.

Unfortunately, it isn't quite that simple. Everything from halfshafts, front and rear drive units, and motor inverters all the way down to the software itself will have to be swapped out for a proper "beastification." Can it be done? Sure! But it's not just a motor swap-er-oo

Yeah, you wouldn't separate the motor from the front/ rear cradle. Swap the whole unit and shafts.
There might be an issue with the wiring harness though...

Oh ok. I didn't realize there's so much more to the beast than a different rear drive unit.

I mean software obviously. I guess in my head if the hardware was swapped to beast than the software would just detect that.

But front drive unit I thought was the same. Guess not.

The rear casting for the beast is a different part number. They have to shut down the casting machine to load up new castings for limited runs. That's why the runs are staggered.*

Oh cool, did not know that. Not swappable then.

I think you are right. When I was talking to one of Tesla reps, he told me that Beast production will ramp up significantly after FS. Now I wonder if it’s because of the assembly line castings. If this is true, Beast VINs will increase significantly after FS. Tesla might eventually run parallel assembly lines for both castings but for now it’s either AWD or Beast! ?‍♂

$100k for Beast instead of $120k should increase demand.
They do have two 9000 ton presses at Austin, so could form them simultaneously.
General Assembly should be able to handle a mix of both since drive section is prebuilt before marriage to rest of frame.
Of course, it's more efficient to batch the versions for worker sanity, especially with three variations coming soonish.

I'm pretty sure the drive units is not a simple add the missing motor. When I went on the factory tour, the Cyberbeast drive unit was huge.

Right, you can't add a motor to an AWD rear drive unit.
