First, I am happy to have this finally! This was my first attempt after the download at 7:30AM this morning! I was just getting out of the neighborhood at our traffic circle. The truck appears on the screen, so I am not sure why it didn’t stop! I waited as long as I felt comfortable which was a last second me slamming on the brakes. The other truck paused it was so close, he was unsure if was coming or not.

Not trying to hate, but damn that was a little close for comfort! Honestly, this seems rushed out just so they can say its out, at their robotaxi event…..
Let me know what you think!

Expecting it to be perfect out the gate is wishful IMO. It’s supervised and will take time to become good. in the other cars it took a few years to get really good and even then I’d be taking over thinking it’s going to bump / rub something. Even still one shouldn’t trust it fully, especially with your life. For me after every update I pretend it’s my first time ever using it and pay close attention, disable it in construction zones etc. I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I just run my first 30 miles on FSD in the CT. The steering, acceleration and braking all seem to be on par with my Model Y. It didn't seem to want to change lanes on its own though. It switches lanes after I initiate the turn signal.

It clearly sees the truck and the traffic circle. It misses the yield sign completely. But out of precaution at a traffic circle it should take a pause to be certain of oncoming traffic. I definitely didn’t expect to be perfect, but this was little scary is all! Just want everyone to be careful is all!

Cheers!

If you hadn't told me it was a roundabout, I would have though the oncoming truck was making a left turn across a boulevard.
Rock (sign? ) I'm median doesn't help visibility either...

Sorry to hear this happened to you. I expect an update soon based on initial feedback. I agree with slow lane changes, even slow speed at times with a clear road. I found the fsd very accurate, it was making tight turns at high speed accurately and even navigated the toll booths nicely.

I was as I think everyone was invited to have it for a month on my model 3 a few months ago and I used it once. It just takes to long to take off drives the exact speed limit a few times was a little confused and I only used it 1 time so I’m pretty sure I’m to worried and don’t have the patience to even use it. I’m surprised so many do

The lane change speed was my biggest complaint for the initial drive. I was in the right lane on a two lane road, a bus was stopped and I had at least 10 seconds of available time to go to the left lane and pass as the lane was free of traffic. After 2 seconds of being stopped where the CT did nothing automatically, I initiated the turn signal so the truck would go to the left lane. With still around 8 seconds before the line of cars behind me were to be in the left lane, the truck just sat there with the lane change blue lines now on the screen. I waited maybe 3 seconds and then manually took over to go to the left lane and pass the bus. I still had at least 5 seconds to make a safe lane change, the CT would've just kept me parked behind the stopped bus presumably indefinitely.

That was enough for me to wait until the next update, before I try FSD again.

What do I think?

That FSD was already slowing down to check for cross traffic when you hit the brake and disengaged. It was only going 16 mph when you hit the brake and the Cybertruck can stop in short order. The truck had just rendered when you hit the brake so FSD would have too, just slightly later.

I'm not saying that's acceptable, it should have seen the other truck coming around the roundabout sooner, I'm simply saying it's very unlikely it would have actually crashed.

Trust, but verify.....I went through 2 different traffic circles (with vehicles beside me and on-coming in the circles) and it handled it fine....but I was definitely watching things closely to make sure it didn't deviate. In some ways, using FSD is more stressful than manual driving, but we are teaching the system so patience and vigilance are required.

Yea, that truck had to hit his brakes I was so close to entering when he was going to be where I was entering. I wanted the truck to stop, but it didn’t, I literally hit my brakes at the same time as the other truck. Either way, I expect flaws, which is why I am ready to takeover.
