No, the impatient human driver is.
Yes, but to be fair, the point is that NHTSA's insistence on unnecessary and unnatural "full NHTSA stop" is the initial trigger for unsafe human intervention caused by impatience. This is a temptation that smart FSD Supervised drivers need to resist. Had NHTSA not been insistent on sub-optimal behavior, the temptation would not exist.

NHTSA is supposed to make the road statistically safer, not less safe. This is why government should be limited to absolutely necessary functions in a thriving civilization and agencies should use restraint, without compelling reasons why action is necessary. Sometimes the people being regulated know more about it than government bureaucrats sitting at a desk. A smart bureaucrat knows when action is needed but they are becoming more rare.

Most of us don’t use the handle “HaulingAss”. You may be biased.

I'm not thrilled by the "NHTSA Stop", but if the extra 2-3 seconds will make me late, then I should have departed sooner.

If anyone feels this is really a safety issue, NHTSA will happily accept your input.

[UPDATE!!]
Genuine apologies to everyone, as a couple folks pointed out it clearly shows the accelerator pedal being pushed by me. I am very glad this was brought to my attention as it’s a wake up call to remember so much of driving happens unconsciously, and pushing the accelerator pedal can also become second nature as we become more accustomed to FSD steering for us and us wanting to “just go.” Note to self and huge reminder to not rest your foot on the accelerator 🤦🏻‍♂️.

Clearly my mind was somewhere else and I have no recollection of pressing the accelerator, but the data clearly indicates that I did. I admit this was my mistake and apologies for stirring folks up around this. I am relieved that FSD does seem to be on the right track and it actually seems to have helped STOP the car for the safety of the pedestrian, it’s now clear to me it’s hesitating to GO instead of stop.

Again, my apologies and thank you to those who pointed this out. Big wake up call to pay attention to our often unconscious actions while using FSD. Genuinely surprised and caught off-guard at my own action here, but a bit relieved as well. Important to admit this mistake was on me.

I absolutely love my Cybertruck, in no way do I want to create a negative post, but this was a wake up call for me as I’d honestly been getting a bit lazy lately with the nagging being so much less, looking at my phone and such.

You can see in the video exactly how long the truck was in FSD and when I hit the brakes and turned the wheel left, it was 100% going to cut off this girl and 99% probably going to hit her. Scary moment. See for yourself. Just a heads up to everyone to truly stay alert, especially in the city around crosswalks. Honestly blown away that this happened, my trust in FSD was nearly unbreakable. Caution.

I commend you for owning up to your discovery that you were subconsciously accelerating and this was not FSD! IMHO, there are several great lessons here: 1) this one; 2) CT bias that this was OK. Even getting close to running over beings is never OK; 3) Nobody should be looking at their phones, or books, or anything else but the road while crossing. Part of me wishes this could be used with AI to splatter the girl on the road (to be clear, a simulated, tragic death) to give universal news and social media attention to the consequences of inattention. I would have such a hard time living with the fact that I hurt someone, even if it were 100% their fault. I've heard a lot of people say they'd deserve it, but I suspect they'd change their mind when they realized the "punishment" didn't match the "crime." Sorry for the rant. That girl could be my daughter.

I’ve got 4 daughters, so you can imagine how I felt when it actually happened. Well said. We’re still not at a place where we can stop paying attention, but it feels like we are, resulting in a very sensitive and potentially dangerous time for FSD. Enjoy it but stay vigilant even if the software feels fully matured.
