My tonneau cover has been acting up for the last few weeks. Specifically, it has been bouncing back after closing fully to leave about a one and a half foot gap between the tailgate and edge of the cover. The video that I made for the service center is attached.

[Nope! Apparently, even editing it down to 4sec, it’s too long for this platform!]

When I got my lightbar installed, last week, one of the things on the list for the service center was to take a look at it. But, as I was planning a road trip for Thanksgiving, and they seem to be backed up I told them to skip it and we would have it looked at the next time I brought it in. Looking at some of the experiences folks have had on the forum I didn’t want to find out that they’d have to replace the entire mechanism and then be stuck without my truck which I needed for some of the things that I had to haul.

So, last night when I was unloading I got a pop-up message on the control screen advising that my tonneau cover was not functioning properly and needed to be re-calibrated. The dialogue box had a prompt for me to ensure that there were no obstructions and then click OK.

Once I did, it began to open and close automatically as it recalibrated. Once that was completed it was working normally again.

Nothing happened out of the ordinary before that. I’ve seen people talking about (and I’m aware that you can go into the calibration mode in service and initiate what I assume is the same process), but I didn’t do that; the vehicle did it on its own! Has anyone else seen this?

I think this is remarkable!

I just wish I had have had the presence of mind to snap a picture of the screen before I clicked OK and it vanished, but I was just coming off of 7 hrs worth of travel.

*I should also note for clarity that I was able to close my tonneau completely before this, it just required me to hold the close button down until it was fully closed. This bounce back behavior was only on a hard press or ā€œauto-close.ā€

Others have reported seeing the "calibration prompt" after multiple failed attempts to close the tonneau. It is the same calibration as the in the Service Menu, so the effect may only be temporary.

Yeah, without saying those words, this is kind of what I meant by nothing out of the ordinary.

Other than the fact that I was unloading and may have opened it more than once over the course of 15 to 20 minutes it wasn’t like I was playing around with it to see if I could get it to close. I did that once and got locked out because I did it more than five times in a row (I was just trying to analyze what was happening) - but that was a few weeks ago.

Just curious-how do you get to ā€œcalibrate Tonneau ā€œ? Go to service menu…Is there a drop down menu? or is there another step?

I have had the same issue with my cover. The calibrate option that pops up seems to only be a temporary fix at least for me.

Yeah, it looks that way. I spoke too soon! It should say, ā€œattempted to heal itself.ā€

I’m still impressed!

I had this same issue and calibration solved it...temporarily. During a service appointment, they lubed the tracks of the cover and I've had no problem since.

I have had this issue since I got my Cybertruck. The prompt does come up after repeated failures. The calibrate function seems to put this issue at ease... for at least a while.

Took it to the SC, but of course they couldn't replicate the issue and did nothing.

Since then, I just live with it as most of the time it works great.

Got my FS CT recently and had this issue (not as bad as it would open half the distance shown in your video). Never saw a pop up to fix it and see this made me realize I hadn't have the issue again in the last few days. Good to know that there is a quick fix if it happens again.

I had a similar issue, they noted it was a hypersensitive pinch sensor.

I think it was slightly out of alignment and when it was closing I pushed on the side that would touch first to try to jostle it back into alignment. Has worked fine since then, three months. YMMV

I've noticed that I've been unable to recreate the "bounce" on closure if the tonneau is not opened 100% of the way. If I can still just barely see the the trailing seal above the back wall, it will close perfectly every time. (Limited data-set of course; the motors quickly overheat from repeated attempts.)

I recalibrated, now the rivets are showing. Going to ask them to put in more slats.

Yeah, I don't recall seeing the rivets at delivery. I noted them some time later and thought "hey how did I miss that". I need more slats apparently...
