Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but someone suggested elsewhere the blue lines might be keyless entry locations. So they can test bluetooth keys while standing in various places near the truck.

Also… in some videos and stills the truck looks odd, but in this video it looks stunning. Like a something you’d have seen at a supercar exhibit.

Seems like it lives in Fremont and the Texas trip was just a visit.
Interesting. The 360-degree camera seems more plausible to me. Plus, I've never seen this method of testing the bluetooth protocol with other Tesla vehicles or in general. I wonder if and why this set-up had to be conducted outdoors.

I was thinking about whether there is only one Alpha build or if there is at least one CT in Hawthorne and one in Austin. The omitted wiper and all the dust might point to just being one that the public is aware of. The Gen 1 Roadster days were fun because they would paint all of their Engineering and Validation Prototypes different colours, so it was easier to track.

Looking at the photos, I'm starting to re-think my above statement. Testing for the keyfob / app seems more plausible. Could it mean a power frunk and power tailgate?:love:

The left side looks caved in
I think it's because the driver's side door is cracked open.

We had 4 inches in one day on two separate occasions this year. What kind of rainfall in one day did you experience this year? I am sure they took that piece of crap off the test vehicle because they are working on one that might actually work in the rain or snow.
Two different days of ~10+ inches here. The total for the rain-year is just around 30", too. About half of what we need for a year. There's only about three more months that we get rain, too.

This could be fabric sticking out the door seam?

Scratch that, above view confirms mismatched panels.
First official use of central cup holders though.

Could be, makes sense to test during daylight.

But why the little semi-circles around each door? Camera is in the back of the fore wheelwell, not on the door. Also, there is only one camera on that side.

Maybe verifying the ability of the truck to figure out where to open the door for you? That would be a mix of cameras plus bluetooth.

Entirely possible (likely even?) there is more than one test truck at this point. Different teams would be working on different issues.

This guy really needs a few more flying lessons. Maybe some camera work.

But hey, at least the music didn't make me want to stab myself in the eardrums

Mismatched? Like, it's a panel from their other stainless vehicle?

I think the door was simply left ajar. Even Tesla's panel gaps aren't that bad, lol

Also, it looks like the panel that covers the B-Pillar camera was removed. You can see a sort of open space in front of the rear window.

I was thinking camera calibration or testing? It looks like they covered the camera areas specifically, so perhaps they sprayed some kind of adhesive and wanted to make sure the cameras stayed clean, or perhaps they are blocking them on purpose while they calibrate something else? The blue painters tape is interesting. Proximity sensor testing?

You'd think if they were calibrating cameras/sensors, they would use a more precise target, not hastily placed tape.

Seems related to the doors, frunk, and trunk. Maybe they're working on the auto-opening functions?
Edit: Didn’t read whole thread , but I’m tripling down on “camera calibration for truck entry and access. “(It) will recognize you and open for you” not verbatim quote but you all know what I’m talking about… ??

Original:
I think you’re definitely thinking right here. Working on camera calibration in all the access zones of the truck. Each door, center of the frunk, center of tailgate, back corners of tail gate (near buttons) and of course charging port

I have it on good authority that they were testing a new rear view mirror adhesive that you're able to Bruce Lee off the door in 1.2 seconds or less.

All drones should now carry food/beverages and a reference item (for size comparison) for times like this. Drop-in close, feed the staff and get the info we all want to see.

Yeah yeah, it won't carry the weight, but one can dream haha.
