The order of production will be:
  1. Gus’ Truck
  2. IDGAF
Yea, but FU might squeeze past IDGAF and pip Gus on the line.

And we know already Moses will come forth!

Need a plan for 3 rd.

The big question is, what would all the people anxious to throw excess wads of cash at the Super Bling Double-Mighty Quad Plaid Cybertruck do if they had to choose between waiting a bit longer or settling for a dual motor truck?

Heads might explode.

I wasn't going to bring it up. When Sawyer said the tri may drop first I actually sat frozen staring into space chewing on that exact thought.

A tri-motor initial launch makes sense in a way. One less motor, fewer batteries, very few people feeling cheated, because people who ordered the tri-motor are getting what they asked for. It'll keep the price increase under control and will flood the streets with a truck that'll dropkick the competition regardless.

Then after 2 years of CT mania, a ramped/stable production, and the World enjoying the tri-motor monster—

. . . drop the quad plaid on 'em.

Order the plaid on release night, sell the tri-motor.

Now the Cybertruck is going to have 5 models?
Everytime I read this sentence I think @Ogre is predicting the five motor variant. Which will make a lot of people on this site very happy. If you have 5 motors, and each is on it’s own wheel, the truck must come with a spare.

That’s right, there’s gonna be a 5-motor CT. You just read it on the internet, it must be true.

Little help from any of the wordsmith’s out there. What comes after quad motor? Quint motor? Penta motor? Cinco motor?

The other big thing is they already have a tri motor car built. No surprises.

It just seems weird to me to have the Tri, Quad, and Plaid.

Order the plaid on release night, sell the tri-motor.
But what do you do when the quint motor version comes out?

Octo-motor. That's right - for the low-low price of only 1.2 million, your octo-valve doesn't have to be a lonely number 8 anymore!

In 2023, Tesla wants 4680 cells for the Model Y, the Cybertruck, the Semi, and the Roadster.

Trying to produce 100,000 Quad Motor Cybertruck’s with 200+ kWh of cells is a huge strain on resources.

Pushing out 100,000 Dual Motor Cybertrucks with 115-140 kWh of cells? That is a much easier ask.

I’ve long thought one of Musks big goals with the Cybertruck is to put the fear of god into legacy auto. Pushing out a $90k+ luxury truck wouldn’t do that. Pushing out 100,000 electric trucks at $60,000 or less absolutely would.

That moves the Cybertruck from “Interesting Niche” into a full on existential threat.

Of course… Musk said quad was first so *shrug*.
a 90k truck isn't weird- that's normal and that would terrify Legacy.

Was watching Dillion's cast today (Electrified) on youtube and he mentioned @sawyerMerrit had discussed new variants of the CyberTruck on a Podcast over the weekend.

He is hearing that initially there will be three variants.

Base dual
Mid dual
Tri-motor

With the quad and plaid coming later.
What about the quad motor?

I've pointed out that Tesla has always made a trinity model list: Budget, Speed, Range. When Model 3 came out, the budget Model S faded out, same for the budget Model X and the Model Y (which left a bunch of people in a lurch).

Tesla no longer needs those high-end models to sell first. It just needs to be able to build enough. Which they can't do. So they don't just keep the prices high, they raise them.

But with Cybertruck raising the price won't change the length of the wait line. It won't change Tesla from in the red to in he black.

So what options they'll have?

Whatever one they can get out the door that won't change them from black to red, whichever one doesn't increase the wait time on their other models.

So... Something that won't mind a slow production rate like the Plaid. And then something that has as few batteries as possible but keeps the price up like the Dual.

Eventually that might end up a long list of variants... but my bet is that there won't be more than two at a time until they chew through the list. The new cathode plant is built, basically.

Tesla isn’t raising prices to curb demand. They are raising them to maintain their profit margin and make up for all the cost they dumped into those new factories.

I am okay with this. I would love a Quad Motor version for offroading but might not be able to afford it. I will take a Tri-Motor with 500 miles. I want to get out of my gas-powered Wrangler asap. It is in fine shape but I am ready to be done with maintenance and fuel cost.

This is my guess as to the prices if announced in Nov 2019.

Base Dual - $40k
Mid Dual - $50k
Tri-Motor - $70k
Quad Motor - $90k
Plaid - $110k
There won’t be a new CT sold by Tesla under $60k.

currently have the amount saved up for the tri motor to buy cash... depending on the specs of the quad and plaid and how much longer i have to wait for them will be the ultimate factor. assuming the tri motor does actually get 500 miles and a zero to 60 in 2.9 seconds i feel like that would be more than enough especially at unveil pricing of 69,990. HOW MUCH BETTER CAN THIS GET. imagine the plaid version doing 1.9 seconds sheeesh.i feel like id save whatever extra and just get the tri.
