Kilotons?
Don’t nuclear bombs get measured in kilotons?
Yes. Although that's sort of ghoulish, the smallest nuclear explosion was supposedly only equal to ten tons of tnt. Hiroshima was destroyed by about 15kt of force.

The little ones (tactical battlefield weapons) do.
Strategic (silo crackers and city destroyers) nukes are measured in megatons (one million tons of TNT).

Not trying to illicit negative imagery. Just thinking that having seen the effects of nuclear explosions, it really emphasizes the power of these “small” metal boxes that are going to pump out our gigacastings. Basically the power to completely level a city being used to pump a bit of liquid aluminum into a tight space not much larger than the size of my trunk.

Tons of pressure is different things and not at all similar.

Anyhow!

Tesla Daily cover this today! It sounds like reports are this is a different machine than the Cybertruck 8k gigapress. ..and maybe that it's after the 8k machine has already been shipped...

Elon: "thanks for the 8k can you make them any bigger?"
IDRA: "if we make a 9k will you buy it?"
Elon: "I'll okay the 9K if you re-pay for the 8K, now Am-Scray!"

That was Elon or Groucho take your pick.

That's kilotons of tnt equivalent for nuclear detonation capacity, not kilotons of force. So also 15kt of tnt equivalent for Hiroshima.

A ton of tnt energy is 4.1 GJ which is about the same as 132litres (34gal) of gasoline. Uranium 235 is 84,000GJ per ton. The force however is derived from the velocity of detonation which is 6950m/sec for TNT and between 1600-1800m/sec for gasoline depending on conditions.

Metric tons are 1000 kg. A kg is roughly 2.2 pounds. So a metric ton is roughly 2200 lbs (2204.6 and a bit, I don't have all the digits), vs a US short ton which is 2000 lbs. Or to put it the other way, a US short ton is roughly 907 kg.

Do we know if idra creates the molds or does Tesla. The mold can’t be manufactured before the cybertruck design is mostly complete.

Interesting to know if we make the moulds or not.

Even if competitors could copy the mould, they would still have to go through the material science phase to inject something in it.

The thickness and paths the injection takes are highly refined and based upon how much heat the material loses as it spreads through. While Tesla has show some renders of these calculations, an actual model would give a huge amount of data to a competitor.

Sometimes you're so far ahead you don't care, but this is where the real magic of implementation is.
