Rivian R1T's are going for $130k-$150k on the used market. Of course I'm in.

No matter how you slice it there will be zero chance to get one without spending $$$$.

There is a sucker born every day. There is also the concept of just cause you list it for that price doesn't mean it will sell for that price.

So there may be a few suckers who pony up for that. But there are probably many more being listed on the second hand market for that price which will stay listed for that price indefinitely, until the owner gives up and keeps their truck.

I'm one of those multiple Single motor guys hoping to build a robotaxi fleet and finance it thru robotaxi income. But now I guess it could be 3 plus years before the single motor rolls off the line. Financially it made sense if the CT was 40K and I could make $100 a day renting or on the robotaxi network. A $90,000 car loan at .99% ( a deal in town today)would have a monthly payments starting at $1,600. That should be doable at $53 a day for 5 years. Now, can I find a bank that will realize the CT is a great appreciating asset and give me a loan for the 13 CTs I have on order! Or at least get the loan for the first one and prove the business success and scalability. Home depot rents a F-250 flat bed for 129 a day ($3600 a month). What do You guys think?

Good luck with that. Just seems quite the not thought out risk. What is this robotaxi service you will list it on and end users will hire it on? Will this service/app exist at time of your purchases? Will it even be legal in your location at time of purchase? Will auto insurance even offer insurance for owners of robotaxi fleets? If so.. probably for a much greater premium than your normal average consumer rates. Will you need the equivalent of a TLC placard? You know how much those things go for?! More than a not cheap house in NYC! Plan for those additional costs in your scheme? As is, you can't legally list your own vehicle on turo in some states.

Maybe I'm too old fashioned and cautious but it just really doesn't seem to be a well thought out or planned financial decision to be ready to plop down a quarter to half a million on a concept of a robotaxi service when the service platform itself doesn't exist, and the fsd technology itself doesn't exist in it's final full self driving capabilities yet. To each their own!

Well it's a good thing you guys put your plans out there in the public sphere where Tesla can see. Goes nicely with their legalese in the reservation agreement that they reserve the right to cancel the agreement if they suspect you are going to flip it.

I owned 2 hybrids back to back. I got better mileage, my cars almost never needed maintenance and, when they did, the cost was much lower than my ice cars. Apart from this difference in experience I agree with everything else you say.

I am no millionaire or billionaire. Average Joe. $69,900 plus $7,000 FSD is way more than I can reasonably afford. If not for the long lead time to save and a small inheritance I would not be able to afford or justify the expense as it is. I could get a single or dual motor, but I need the range of trimotor.

yes, MPG was a lot better, maintenance is cheaper but not really by that much besides brake pads. Oil changes were only slightly cheaper, tires are about the same. Had to do cooling system flush for 2 systems, transmission fluid change Was the same……basically same as a normal compact car. Fortunately the electrical system didn’t have any issues unlike some people I know.

Then going up hill is agonizing and pass is not safe depends on where. It’s loud inside with lots of road noise or driving inside a washing machine on tougher roads. Outside of being city commuter car it’s terrible. I refused to drive it long distances regardless of the MPG saving.

I still regret not getting the long range model 3 every time I take a trip but it’s really not bad and it drives for me. I have yet to chang anything on my Model3 at 30k miles. And in contrary I look forward to take my Model 3 especially on trips over my 2 lexus, I love it so much but makes CT wait extra excruciating! ?

Scalping and gouging only apply to life-critical supplies like water and food, or possibly critical things like fuel and other supplies. There's no such thing as gouging on concert tickets and Cyber Trucks, which are just fun luxuries. If nobody pays the scalpers, they go away. If someone is paying, they perceive a value. I bought one ticket from a scalper once, because we showed up with an extra person at the last second and we didn't have her covered. No on site sales, so yes, there was a value provided there.

Nobody has ever been able to explain to me the moral outrage around people buying a non-necessary commodity just to resell it.
