Would you delay purchase if the dual motor is first?

If the Dual Motor truck is released first, how long would you wait for the 500+ mile range Tri motor

  • Willing to wait 3 months more than that I’d switch to dual

Honestly, buying dual motor and then selling it when tri motor comes out would probably be profitable considering demand.
Trading-up is only practical if you were prescient enough to make a second reservation.

Also, your second purchase will not have the $7k FSD price locked.

I’m considering a trade-up eventually, but it will be years away.

Of course everything I've seen could be BS but until Tesla actually releases delivery dates and costs....
Got that part right ;)

My second res would've been made during the 8k fsd phase. But even if I had to forsake fsd to upgrade to the tri motor I'd do it.

Get the dual, use it for a year or however long it takes for my decond res to pop, hope trimotor is out by then. If it is, sell dual motor, buy tri. The range benefits alone would be enough for me to be okay with the loss of FSD. Normal autopilot is plenty. But I do want FSD (mainly for summoning out of my garage.) Guess I could do EAP if FSD isn't locked in on second

I want the tri-motor, but if I've learned anything from this experience, it's to take what I can get and don't wait on Tesla to deliver on something promised. You'll likely be left waiting much longer then you think. Honestly, buying dual motor and then selling it when tri motor comes out would probably be profitable considering demand.
That's great if you already have two reservations but if not then how far down the line will you be for the replacement CT? I'd rather get the tri that I ordered a year after initial deliveries start than have a dual motor for 4 years while I await my next turn to come up.

I got my info from at the 3:07 mark, $80K-$100K. This is a prediction by the referenced speaker. I've also seen videos saying the CT won't be built in large numbers--ever. Of course everything I've seen could be BS but until Tesla actually releases delivery dates and costs I'm not going to worry about it. Of course, if the costs are significantly higher (like double) I could see a majority of the reservations being cancelled. I can't believe how expensive even regular cars are right now and have to wonder how many people are going to go broke financing a $100K car/truck.
you got to be kidding....Tesla is not going to build a factory of this size and expense to only have a "limited" production of the CT's.......they want to build as many and as fast as they can....every 3-6 months, they will introduce some new kind of operating functions through the software OTA changes........I agree that if the price is way off from the reveal, there may be a big cancel of reservations.....it sure scares the hell out of me......I really want this truck.....

one thing we all need to remember........we think of range without the factoring in the average usage (kWh used). My Model S is averaging 238kWh for 21,000 miles......my book range is 409......the CT may have a range of 350 to 400, dual motor......BUT......the average kWh usage is probably going to be 375 to 425......that to me is a big issue....means less range and more kWh usage......more charging.......

so bottom line to me is that if the usage is 425kWh, then the range has got to be close to 500 miles

Hard to tell without specs and price. I would want a dual motor long range (330+ mile) and I would want it two years after launch (for bug fixes).

Sorry what video is this from? Some random Youtuber with theories?
The ones from the retail investor who got into Investor Day. Matt DR or something.

He talked to a lot of Tesla staff about the Cybertruck and one of the things he pulled away from it was dual motor would be first.

So it’s somewhere between a leak and a rumor. Slightly more credible than just pure theory.

If I sound a bit skeptical it’s because I am. But it’s not that far out there, Tesla’s 4680 production isn’t exactly in high gear so very possible they don’t have enough cells to produce a 500m truck in volume.

I ordered a few. Half dual half tri.
IMO it was a huge screw up for elon to mention quad motors because now thats what I almost have my heart set on for my truck. In the brief amount of time I owned an R1T I fell in love with the way it could take corners at speed.

If quads not an option, ill need to know that more about whether the truck will offer true locking differentials before I decide. If they can actually lock and not some break torque bs, then I can deal with dual. What I can not deal with is garbage range so if there is a big disparity between the range options I will 100% wait for the 3 (and secretly hope if becomes 4).

whatever the cost is wont deter me though I still believe its gonna be $90k + and ranging well into the 100s with options

if they dont put 4680's in the CT, will the price reflect that omission?

I don’t think the truck happens with 4680s.
I dont either....just wondering what effect it will have on the pricing and range.......this is a big miss for the CT

Thank for the explanation. I might be torn then. Might be ok with dual motor but 300mile range sucks. What our Y has and get 250-260 with normal driving.
