I've spent about an hour with FSD 14.3.1 so far. Early thoughts:
What's gotten better:
Overall this version feels smoother and more assertive, except for the very occasional hesitations. I've been using FSD in Cybertruck for about 1.25 years; 13.9 still feels like peak FSD to me, despite the lack of parking. But we're getting closer.
What's gotten better:
- Yellow light handling is much improved - no more slamming on the brakes to stop for a yellow it should have gone through.
- Getting into a lane well in advance of a turn is much improved - I haven't missed a turn yet (this was an issue with 14.2.2.5 - it didn't even try sometimes to get into a needed lane).
- Speed profiles are slightly improved - unlike a lot of others, my issue has been that no speed profile will reach the speed limit - they all accelerate until they are 3 or 4 below the limit and stay there. Yesterday, "hurry" got slightly above the limit - fantastic! But I'd still gladly downgrade to a version with actual max speed control.
- The dangerous hesitations that first appeared for me in 14.2.2.5 (one of which happened during a left turn into oncoming traffic when FSD decided it couldn't make it and just stopped halfway into the oncoming lane with cars fast approaching) continues in 14.3.1: yesterday while waiting to make a right turn to merge into traffic an oncoming ambulance resulted in FSD's hesitation behavior: it lurched back and forth a little farther into the path of the ambulance until I had to give it the go pedal to get out of the way. My wife has similarly experienced the indecisive lurching.
- Disengagements remain much higher than 13.9 (which I almost never disengaged).
- Navigation issues remain probably the weakest part of FSD, which has started ignoring the map more often, usually to its (and my) detriment.
- Not sure yet about FSD's habit of switching to a lane that's about to end, right before it ends - more testing needed.
- Phantom wiper issue still happens, but much more infrequently. I don't reflexively turn off auto wipers simultaneous to engaging FSD.
- It couldn't get out of my garage and onto the road. It backed out, went forward a bit, the backwards, then forward. Then gave up. I have a straight driveway with the garage at 90 degrees; this hasn't happened on any prior version.
