New to the site and not typically a poster but I think I just need to vent. I have had the car for 6 days and 4 of those days in the shop. Like most of you I have been waiting for 4 years and finally received my truck on May 10, 2024 here in Franklin, TN. The process of picking up a $100k truck was a bizarre experience in itself. Walking up to a counter and signing some documents and being told the parking spot it’s located in was strange. It was like picking up a Hertz rental car. Not even a thank you or congrats.
First issue I had was the tonneau cover not being installed properly. The rubber dividers were getting caught when being closed due to the cover being uneven.

They tried to fix but then decided they will need it for the whole day. Put me in a rental and picked up at end of day. This was this past Monday.

Tuesday morning took my kids to school and decided to switch drive mode from the sport mode to custom. I then realized I was getting a warning about height not being able to adjust. I then noticed another warning that I missed about not being able to charge and that the truck needs service. Took it in and they put be back in a rental. Finished at end of day and apparently there was a hose that simply was not connected that made the car rise and lower.
IMG_5896.jpeg

Then, this morning I go out to the truck to take my girls to school and the truck is a complete brick. I cannot even open a door, unplug charger, open bed…I mean nada. Then Tesla had to literally send 3 different tow trucks with a total of 10 hours of waiting. I won’t bore you with the details but just simply an awful experience. None of the drivers, except for the last one, knew what to do, yet I had the Tesla service rep texting me that they will know what to do.

So now, at 9:33pm CST, I can only assume they have the car because I did not get any kind of confirmation nor any service notification in my app. Day 6 a brick in my driveway and day 7 will be in the shop. I really hope this is not common.
We were planning on taking this in a road trip but I really have my doubts. Anyways, thanks for listening and, again, just wanted to get this off my chest and share my experience so far. The few days I did drive it I absolutely LOVE it! But this experience has left a very bitter taste.
That sucks. Tesla better take care of this for their own sake as well yours and mine too as an owner and shareholder. I do believe they will learn from all issues like this like they have in the past. I certainly trust them more than ICE car dealers for fixing issues on new cars. Hang on.

Hey, so this is what I was wondering. I was thinking of starting another thread about road trips and everyone’s tips and overall experience. We were thinking about taking it down to Florida for vacation (6.5 hr drive w/o charging) and now with these problems I am a bit hesitant.
The unknown can be concerning. I had just taken it to Miami (2.25 hour drive each way) and no issues during that trip. Just randomly happened after leaving the gym two days later.

Sorry for the issues. As far as delivery, that's what I like about Tesla. I don't want to talk to people; I don't need a thank you; I just want to pick up my car/truck. Put a card with my name on it on the dash; I'll get in, connect it to the app, and leave.

You do this for the betterment of the Whole! We share your disenchantment....l am sure the CT will turn into a Beautiful Swan.....for now, in your case and others, it's a Floody Ugly Buckling ?
Tesla may deserve a Wooden Spoon or a Wood Duck award......let's see!
All that said, l cannot wait for DownUnder deliveries to begin Christmas Day 2026(+/- 2 Weeks)

I’d have none of that. For $100k I’d press them for their top end loaner. Every day if you have to to get it and until your CT is fixed. Hopefully at least if it’s a Y or S, but it’s got to have FSD and performance IMO. It’s only right for spending a $100k to get their top end loaner. Good luck! ?
I hear you ....it is a ton of money!
We all expect a perfect product when we buy NEW .....
My parents bought a brand new 1985 929 Mazda fully loaded! When l opened the garage door with the flouros on, l noted the paint was way off from what one would expect from a Japanese Car Maker.
On close inspection, the car had been fully resprayed.....l was a car restorer of high end collector cars.
The next day l took the car back for a replacement...fat chance! The dealer offered to re-do their first attempt.
You can imagine the pictures of a pulled apart brand new 929....a month later, the car was collected. Later that year it was sold with at a loss.
This story ends well ......for most CT buyers!

I feel terrible for you, I would be so mad and sad if that was my experience. I’ve been lucky, I’ve had mine 4 weeks now and gone over 3000 miles without any issues. Hang in there.

If it makes anyone else feel better it's not just Tesla.

Even Mercedes, Porsche, Honda have problems when they launch a new model.

It's why I never buy a first year production car. First year is when all the major problems are discovered and resolved.

There will be many parts revisions, assembly process changes, etc. happening on CT in the first year of production.

Sweet spot to buy is probably 18 months in when most of the major stuff has been completely sorted.

Yes, I agree…and, again, being first adopter of X we anticipated issues but nothing ever major happened. Now they are literally replacing the whole front drive unit. This, if I am understanding it correctly, is a very major part of the vehicle. And, again, only having the vehicle for a week, it has been in the shop for more time than I had it.

I really really hope all this early repair data is making it back to the manufacturing team (who’s boss just quit) so they can actually fix this in production. Does anyone know what teslas process is like for ensuring these common problems get fixed in manufacturing?

A guy at my office has a very early vin. I think he got his in March and hadn’t had any issues. I wonder if they were being more cautious before the ramp up.

Btw, just got update: they are replacing the front drive unit…unreal…

I found a picture of a front drive unit for Cybertruck. Is this like replacing the front engine? If you bought a car and they replaced the engine how would you all feel? This seems like a major fix…

It‘s a lot of work (lots of little steps) but drive units fails sometimes (IIRC, there was a rash of rear DU’s in 2020 MY’s failing for a short while). Tesla has a detailed remove/install process in the Service Manual and they’ll get you straightened out.
