Is anyone else having issues with the V2 version of the rear camera cover by @AO-Pete? It works great but has a weekness at the bottom where it starts to lift and allow moisture in. My last two covers have both done this and had to be removed after the first car wash (even though I am careful). The V1 cover never did this even though it cropped some of the image.

So Pete sent me one of these nice and I never installed it. Didn’t understand the point. I live in Phoenix where it seldom rains.
is there a noticeable benefit?

It's a night / day difference in areas where it rains - like Seattle. I love the cover. Just bummed they aren't surviving a careful wash. The cropped image of the V1 didn't bother me because I use the rear view image zoomed to 1.0x.

I’ve had these and faced similar problems with moisture on the inside of the lens. When that happens It blocks or obscures the camera which is what it’s trying to prevent. I’ve chatted with Pete about these and they are trying to come up with a solution. My opinion, the cover has two areas where the adhesive area is very thin and it just can’t hold up. There are no vents to allow air flow for moisture removal. I love the idea but for CT, these need more work.

I had the exact same issue. I ended up having to tear it off and now there is adhesive residue all around the camera. I'll need to buy some adhesive remover to get it off. I also loved the cover, but unfortunately if it can't survive a wash then it's pointless.

Same here…removed it in less than a week. Nice company though.

I had mine (V1) on during last winter and, while it works, it's amazing. I ordered a V2, but am waiting for rainy season before installing it. V1 lasted for about 3 months, including going through a handful of pressure washes. Maybe I just got lucky, I don't know.

One thing, though - you can't wipe them like you would the camera lens. If you try to clean it with your thumb or T-shirt or whatever, you just ruined it. The hydrophobic coating on them is fragile.

I have had a V2 on my CT for many months now. Been through lots of rainstorms. No issues yet.

Pete is one of my favorite dudes ever but why not just. put a high quality ceramic on it? The camera I mean. I don’t live somewhere rainy but it seems like that should work. I think hydrophobicity is exactly how they work

Same problem for me. My PPF shop put some “not the best ceramic on the camera to test it out. Worked good for a couple of weeks. I may drop the cash and get a good quality one and see how it goes.

I tried a couple of treatments like RainX and AquaPel prior to getting the Abstract Ocean cover. Granted, they were not ceramic coatings but they didn't make any measurable improvement like the cover does. My covers have never developed moisture from rain, only from washing. With the V1, it got blasted with the hose with no problem. When I tried the same with the first V2, it was ruined. After that, with the second V2, I was very careful not to hit it with the hose but it got moisture in it only from a light touch from a soapy wash mitt. Upon inspection, I can see it lifting at the bottom and I think heat/sunlight causes warping leading to water ingress.

Same thing happened to me.

I just removed it and threw it in the garbage.

The problem is that it fills with water if you put the tailgate down after a car wash or a rainstorm. The gap around the camera must be continuous with something inside that gets water in it from above.
