Great question. I went through the same mindset. It was doing the math on the per hour cost that blew me away.

But I was convinced when I talked to TWRAPS wrap owner. I was interested in a wrap and couldn’t decide whether to do vinyl or PPF. The only thing that I really feared with doing the wrap myself was cutting it. I was afraid I’d do bad on the edges or even cut the stainless steel or plastic.
So, I was real lucky coming across this company and this owner. His customer service support was insane. It was awesome. In the end I spent around $1500 for the material being pre-cut and with incredible customer support. His PPF material is different to than the rest is my understanding in terms of ease to work with, flexibility, and durability. Then my teenage son and I knocked it out in two easy days. That finished about 98% of it. Over the next week little bubbles would pop out and I would just rake them out or heat gun them out and now it’s awesome. I went through a thick rain storm two days ago and it’s perfect. I literally saved About $4000 based on quotes in the Austin area by doing it myself and it looks every bit as good as any professional job I’ve seen. Follow the instructions , good attention to detail and it’s very easy to do.
Owner of TWRAPS is the man! Great customer service. I don't even mind giving him my money. I do plan on going with him. When I get my cantrails replaced. The only thing is I would need a install kit with heat gun. Would be great if he also supplied that but a lot on Amazon is probably 50-100.

As a professional shop, how would you explain to your customers your pricing? What I mean is if you’re charging $4500 or $5000 for a vinyl wrap do you write out the labor hours and also the parts pricing? Or is it just a flat fee and that’s what it is? I was seeing yesterday somebody asking about pricing on a forum and they were looking for cheaper alternatives and one shop owner replied, spend the 30 hours to do it yourself and then when it’s not right then you’ll have to go pay a professional to do. Which got me thinking. When I read that. If it’s taking a professional shop 30 hours to install a vinyl wrap that probably wholesale cost them $750 maybe $800. I don’t know I could be wrong. Say something I can Avery or 3M or whatever the final wrap people are. So you’re saying the labor is probably $4000 for 30 hours so that’s easily over $100 an hour. It sounds like a lot right? I mean, are you making $100 an hour I mean don’t answer that you might be since you have a cyber truck. Or a lawyer or a doctor or something like that. But still in my opinion a over $100 an hour seems like a lot. Maybe it’s not maybe I’m ignorant anyone have any experience or want to chime in and explain it might help me and others that are looking at wraps and trying to understand our pricing? Perhaps it’s taking more than 30 hours maybe it’s a 70 to 90 hour job I don’t know. I think that there’s a lot of ignorance in this and somebody that’s a professional chiming in and giving out that information would help others understand why the prices are what they are opposed to oh we know it only cost $750 for the role. Why is it costing us now $5000 for the install so you understand where I’m coming from I think that would be great information at least for me it would be it would help me make a better decision. I would do it myself just for the shits and giggles about it but my garage you know with the dust and all that just is not something that would work
I was a self-employed HANDYMAN making $100/hr. My competition was about $25/hr. I found that people are willing to pay more for quality, dependability and communication! I retired at 70, making $250,000/year as a one-man business. Most of my customers were long-term repeats.
That said, I found a wrap guy locally, SWB Wraps, who gave an estimate, stuck to it and did an excellent, attention-to-detail job! I was his first CT wrap and he has done several since.

What do you feel is a fair market value for a vinyl wrap? 2k, 3k,4k,5k?
It depends on attention to detail and quality. Mine was $3,500 and I was extremely satisfied!

100% he's great. As for heat gun, I bought a great one from Home Depot for $26. It was way more than I needed and has been amazing for touchups and corner wraps (if u even need it).

Wow, the prices for a PPF wrap in my area are insane compared to what I'm seeing in this thread. I got 2 quotes (one of which is very reputable in my area): $8,000 and $9000 (I got quotes back in December). The shop that quoted $9k offered a 'sale' back in Jan that lowered the price to...think it was $6500. I understand there's a lot of labor involved but the price being 10% of the cost of the truck??

Originally, I wanted to wrap it but I may stick with the stainless look for a while. But, when I decide to wrap it, I'm def purchasing from TWRAPS.

I think it depends on where you’re at. Here in Tampa one of the best places charges 3995. Plus tax, which I thought might’ve been high but you know all things considered right now it’s very reasonable. Another place that’s fairly decent. Quoted me 5000. For right now I’m gonna keep it stainless steel. If it becomes way too annoying or something then I might change it sooner than later. I have an idea on the colors that I like I’m thinking like a metallic glass or some sort I thoroughly was thinking about the chrome polished look, but then I showed it to my son‘s mom and she said that’s even bigger of a douche look. Lol

Yes, the charges are way too high. They come from special service shops that charge a lot for a unique service to their niche group of customers. It’s like Christmas for them right now.

More CT's = more demand. Their prices can remain high till competition comes into play. But it may never come.

Tesla has said CT will be the only vehicle using raw SS.. The Cybercab uses 'impregnated color in the plastic panels.. perhaps an indicator of future new builds.

I decided to do my own wrap. First time wrapping a vehicle. It took me 3 days. I did make some mistakes but learned quickly that you cannot rush. Total cost of materials was $800

Day 1 -- prep and disassembly
Day 2 -- front and right side
Day 3 -- rear and left side (reassembly)

Looks good. did you go ppf or vinyl? I think i'd pay the mats +1500 for someone to install it, teswraps has a place near by, but they want 3k for install, and while that's cheaper than the local tampa shops, i think its too rich for my blood, unless the prep is super indepth like the shops say they do.

I went with a vinyl wrap. The prep is not that extensive it just takes a little time. I washed my truck twice with dawn dish detergent. decontaminated the surface with a circular buffing pad on a drill with dawn dish detergent again, let dry, wiped down the surface and inside edges with alcohol

$100/hr for skilled labor, doesn't seem unreasonable for a perfect wrap.

Anyhow, I don't need perfect, and I like to try to do things myself, partly because I've always been curious about things. So, I just finished wrapping my CT, yesterday in pre-cut PPF from Yeslak. For $500, I figured, why not, it's cheap protection against random key swipes. The CT is pretty flat, which makes it easier. But, the pieces are large, so that makes it harder. I don't have a garage, which makes it hard to control for the environment, like airborne debris, bugs, wind and sun. Obviously you'd like no wind, and no sun. Still, I didn't find it all that hard. Cantrails, are the only parts I haven't done yet.

$100/hr is not unreasonable at all. I'd gladly pay it but how many hours does it take to wrap a CT by a professional?

A diy project would take you and I two days. Let's say a pro can knock it out in 10 hours. That would be about $1000 in labor and $1000 in material? $2000 total if gladly pay. But some shops are quoting upwards of $5000+ that's about $4000 in labor.
