Fair. We liked the idea of very cheap diy solar as needed when the power company jacks rates eventually and some of the above mentioned benefits so that’s what we did.
The other thing that may or may not be anecdotally true in your area any more is that there are thousands of competitive Tesla “partners” trained to install the powerwall and that means competitive pricing. Every solar installer in a 100 mile radius could install a powerwall 3 and was willing to bend over backwards to get the business.
The gateway basically required (at least early on) that you subject yourself to Qmerit’s highway robbery pricing and so we would have ended up spending almost the same amount for a system with MUCH less functionality in my opinion.
We investigated both options and the powerwall 3 was a no brainer. Ended up spending only $1500 more or so on that than the crazy Qmerit pricing. Also a much easier sell come tax time we thought than a two way car charging system which nobody at the IRS had ever heard of.
I think all those PowerShare “installation credits” just got to Qmerit’s head and gave them license to rip off a bunch of Tesla customers
Just my opinion. Like I said before, I realize that may be controversial.

Yeah, roll out was poor. We ended up using non-Qmerit for the Powershare install.

I would stick with the TESLA because they are generations ahead of the competition in general.

Having said that, I charge my cyber truck using a Porsche charger. I use the Porsche charger on my wife’s Cayenne hybrid. It works extremely well and is able to modify and regulate the voltage feed according to a combination of demand from the house and the price of electricity.

I have a 200 amp service to the house, so charging one vehicle at a time is not an issue. Next time I build a house, however, I will add a 400 amp service at least.
