.....
what you quoted above is said in one part of the presentation

in a *Different* part of the presentation he talks only about the doors, and demonstrate only the doors, when discussing it being bulletproof (or withstanding the sledgehammer)

meanwhile, only the doors are in the Tesla patent for 'exoskeleton'

put differently, based on info presented in the unveil, it has been at best *indeterminate* as to whether they were making claims about only the door and not the rest of the SS

what has been a mistake are people who interpreted or assumed that the discussion was not only determinate, but in the direction of describing the entire vehicle

MEANWHILE: NOTICE here that they've intentionally attempted to keep the spray within the door area

there's no other, good, reason for them to have not also shot at the rear quarter panel (at least)

one or two missed, and hit the edge of the rear QP - but that would also be the area of the rear QP where there is NOT a void behind the panel (so it's resistance there isn't attributable solely to the QP metal)

Elon specifically has added to the possible wrong understanding regular people have.

In public ( 35M views ) , Elon has said
“Because it’s badass, and it’s super cool. Do you want your truck to be bulletproof or not?”

Elon even said "bulletproof" NOT "bullet-resistant"

To the regular person "truck" means "truck".

How can the truck even be bullet-resistant if the window in the door is weak.
Most every car/SUV/pickup has a window in the door and the window might occupy 30% of the space.

Most carjackers with a gun walk up to the victim and point the gun at the victim behind the door's window NOT at the metal panel. Carjackers, road-ragers and others will shoot not only through the driver door glass but through back side windows and or vehicle rear window.

------------------------------------

When Musk joined Jay Leno in a Cybertruck ride that was aired on MSNBC’s Jay Leno’s Garage, the former late-night TV show host asked the Tesla CEO why is it important that it be bulletproof?

Musk quickly replied,
“Because it’s badass, and it’s super cool. Do you want your truck to be bulletproof or not?”

I hope that we will not be tested by the stupid little thugs who would like to test the veracity of what is announced in this context, or even worse test ammunition to see what calibers of bullets could perforate the armor of the CT!! !!!! ?
Your hope will be fruitless because there will be thugs who will test this not on their truck but on innocent victim's truck while victim is in the truck.

Per Elon Musk:

"We emptied the entire drum magazine of a Tommy gun into the driver door Al Capone style. No bullets penetrated into the passenger compartment."

Uh… usually “tommy guns” or Thompson Submachine guns are chambered in .45 ACP, a large pistol round.
I have a few questions:
I want to see this test.
Were they full metal jacket “target” rounds? I dont see a lot of “splatter” to suggest they were hollow points…
How close to the truck were they?

nonetheless, thats impressive. Those rounds can drop a person at 50-100+ yards easily with a good shot.

that’s all I really needed to hear to know that you’re off the rails, attitudinally
It is Elon (age 52), who has handled guns since he was a kid in South Africa, who frequently uses the incorrect term "bulletproof" when referring to the Cybertruck.

I quoted Elon and provided source video that has been viewed 10s millions times.
Also that was not the only time he said those things.

How am I off the rails, attitudinally?

Being discussed on here is definitely not a great source. I have never seen any source say that the panels will vary in material specs in any way. Elon didnt say the only the doors are made out of ultra hard stainless and in fact if the hardness changed the color and look may be hard to maintain so i doubt they will vary the hardness. If anything I have argued that they may reduce the thickness of non door panels to save weight, but that has not been proven to date as far as i am aware.
Leno ride. Elon says. “Doors will be bullet proof stainless”.

don’t understand your point of it I guess - the emphasizing that Musk said ‘proof’ and not ‘resistant’

in any event, I said his comments have - all of them - been technically ambiguous as to whether he was talking about the entire truck or just the doors, because he has. Saying ‘the CyberTruck is bulletproof’ is not the same as saying ‘the entire CyberTruck is bulletproof’

moreover, if the sense of “bulletproof” that is relevant is occupant safety, then the doors are really all that is relevant - firing into the other QPs is irrelevant to the material sense of ‘bulletproof’

meanwhile, as mentioned, we have facts on hand that emphasize this ambiguity. The demonstrations at unveil involved only the doors. Today’s video shows they took shot at only the doors. The ‘exoskeleton’ patent discusses only the doors. And as several on this forum have pointed out (including me), photos/videos of the CT, at various angles, show the doors have a different tone of color than the other SS panels.

Tesla Cybertruck Bulletproof tested Cybertruck spotted!! Musk confirms: "No bullets penetrated into the passenger compartment." [⚠️ ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS] 1697838419603

Personally, I don’t take all that to mean that it’s definitive that the doors are of a different nature, and that only the doors are bullet resistant.

But I do take it as definitive that those who say the whole truck (or all it’s SS) have been clearly claimed as bullet resistant, are incorrect - on both their interpretation of the comments, and in the face of facts on hand.

We’ll see!

Agreed - the debate for what the difference is between "proof" and "resistant" is pointless and entirely dependent on context. Some might say pistols only, to which I'd pull out my .300 Blackout AR-15 Pistol or one of the many .22 sleeved ARs - it would be impossible for it to stop rifle 5.56 or 7.62 the debate is just pointless because there are too many variables.
Why can't we look at and just be impressed that it stopped anything?
I'd rather they fixed summon or the wipers - things that I'd use more :D
