Just use it until it has issues, then buy a new one. Once the market dies down a bit, should be around $100.

edit: here's a 400 mile one on ebay for $160 https://www.ebay.com/itm/405128257166
I'm sure it's overpriced, but for that cost I wouldn't really sweat it unless it impacts your view.

PPF won't work; it'll fuzz up the optics, but the main issue is it will not confirm to the shape, at least, not for very long. The Rivian's have the same issue, but on those the camera is part of the facia assembly, so you're looking at -wait for it - $1500 to replace it. For that reason, I spent a long time trying to create a 'contact lens' for front cameras, but couldn't get to a viable product. At least Tesla has made the replacement easy, and for all their many faults, they tend to be extremely reasonable for parts.
Good insight here. I just recently did a bumper bedliner job and tried removing the camera, instead of masking it. It was extremely easy. Removing the front bumper is about 10 min and the most difficult part. The rest is 1 bolt, swap connector, you're done.

I think of it like a windshield. Eventually, you'll just have to replace it, is a wear and tear item.

My hope is that these parts prices from Tesla continue to drop in cost as more and more CTs are on the road!

So, less than 1,000 miles and I already have rock chips on my front camera lens.
sigh. Anyone else in here not allowed to have nice things?

Interesting points and thanks for posting. It was known to Tesla obviously that some debris would be hitting the camera with it's location so low, which is why they included a camera washer.

However after seeing this I think they might also want to consider integrating a replaceable lens cover of some sort. In the short term, one might want to try fabricating a small guard or cover made of lexan or tough glass.

PPF might protect partially from an impact, but with the proximity being low and close to the road and objects likely being thrown from tires of other vehicles ahead, I think something more substantial is needed.

Yeah, I got about 3,500 miles on my Cybertruck and I now have the small chips on the front bumper cam. It's more noticeable at night, as it shows up as blurry glare spots on the display.

However after seeing this I think they might also want to consider integrating a replaceable lens cover of some sort.
Hopefully. Mine's not too bad right now. But if/when it gets worse and the time comes to fix it, I hope they can replace the lens without much difficulty. Seems like a waste to have to replace the whole unit itself. But I dunno, with the way stuff gets made, maybe it ends up being cheaper to just replace the camera vs labor costs to replace just the chipped glass.

Wait to you get to 50k miles. Just replaced mine a few days ago due to all the chips in lens. Pretty normal
