This is a project that has been on my list almost since day one. I finally found a free weekend to crank it out. I wanted a way to secure the tire in the bed while still leaving ample room underneath for 4x8 sheet stock, full sized cylinders, etc. First off, I will go ahead and say I know my welds suck. So all you accomplished welders may just want to avert your eyes :) . I just don't have steady enough hands anymore for aluminum.

I eventually will weld in a plate to attach a more standard tire wingnut mount.

Plenty of clearance.

I used eye-nuts and slots in the plate for easy, tool-less, install and removal (as well as convenient connection points). The 1/4" plate was scrap from an old project (why it has TO-3 transistor holes in it).

Looks like you have some cybertent brackets on there. Is it installable with the tire holder in place? With or without the tire? Can it be opened?

Yeah, that was a design constraint. I didn't want to have to remove the tent hardware so I made the shelf fit in the remaining space. Tire has to be removed to install the tent but the shelf can stay. However, I expect I will remove the shelf when the tent is in use so the tire can fit under it (unlikely to need the tire so don't want it taking up valuable easy access space when camping).

If anyone else is planning on doing something similar, you might also be interested in this 3d print. It is a sleeve that goes on the L-Track stud to lock it in place so it doesn't fall out as you are manipulating the shelf or whatever you are installing:

There are two versions, a flat version and a 10degree slanted version (which I used for this project).

Nice job and the use of aluminum really cuts down on the weight. I’m still using the cargo strap method posted by another user a while back. Easier to store cargo straps… 😜

OK. I think I am finally finished. Welded in a plate so I could secure the tire with a carriage bolt. 3/4" plywood insert (with rubberized coating) to hold it in place and also allow me to store stuff inside the wheel w/o it falling through.

The 3d printed cone is just to keep the bolt from falling out when removing the tire.

I would certainly buy this, if availble in the aftermarket.. I don't have the time or welding skills to make it.. Maybe get together with one of the 3rd party Cybertruck aftermarket companies and see if they are interested in manufacturing this, cut a deal for a small royalty/fee per copy sold.. just a thought :)

Same. If OP can fabricate a kit that we can assemble after shipping I would totally get this for road trips.

I've been thinking of something similar, but as a metal strap on each side down to a bar. Two or three would allow supporting a tire. Yes, they could swing forward and back without bracing, but that can be dealt with with bracing.

my problem is that i have to carry 2 spare tires, one for CT and one for my wifes MY... even if i get the CT up on a deck like this, id still have the MY spare tire in there. it really pisses me off that tesla doesnt provide a place for a spare tire in any of their vehicles. especially the CT since its made to go off road....

I bought a mini/donut tire for my wife's MS, but so far have not had to use it. In fact she took it out at some point to make room for something and it now sits in the garage. Every flat has been a nail or screw and it is easier to just plug it than replace the tire. I agree that this is not OK for the CT where you are screwed if you end up with a gash or something non-repairable when you are far from civilization.

However, I think the real design mistake was putting the rear camera in the middle of the tailgate. Should have been embedded in the left brake light housing so it stays in place with tailgate down AND you can use a swing tire mount on the back without blocking the camera.
