All we are going to see is small incremental improvements. Some announced, but most we will never hear about.

Haha! So Ford doesn't even offer a roof-mounted off-road light? I guess it's pretty hard to say Tesla's is inferior because you don't like that they use an adhesive to attach it to the glass?
Follow-up: Tesla has now concluded that using an adhesive to attach the lightbar to the glass was not a satisfactory approach. Cybertrucks with the lightbar have been recalled. According to the recall documentation, the defect rate of adhesive-mounted lightbars was estimated at 10%.

As part of the recall, the lightbar will be attached using "a bracket anchored to the vehicle structure" to provide "a positive mechanical attachment". The new approach is similar to that typically used by aftermarket lightbars on F-150s and other off-road vehicles.

I'm not buying a Cybertruck 2 until it can drive/float on a cushion of air. :)

Tesla is unpredictable, but in the past, they have not refreshed their lineup as frequently as most traditional automakers.

Model S: introduced 2012, first major update in 2016
Model X: introduced 2015, first major update in 2021
Model 3: introduced 2017, first major update in 2023
Model Y: introduced 2020, first major update in 2025

So with older models, the first major updates have occurred about 4-6 years after introduction. The Cybertruck was introduced in late 2023, so if the same schedule is followed, the first major update could happen around 2027-2029.

As far as I know, Tesla has not dropped any hints about a Cybertruck refresh. If anything, Tesla might be less likely to refresh the CT, because of the stainless steel body. Stainless steel is difficult to work with, which could make it harder to develop and implement even small changes.

None of the updates are radical redesigns. The average person might not see much difference between the oldest and newest Model S or Model X. The newest Model 3 and Model Y are easily distinguished by the front lightbar, but that's basically just a cosmetic feature.
I second that.

After 2 days of trying, I got that darn thing to float once and vowed to never touch it again. My little brother, who I bought it for, can practically toss it from across the room and stick the landing.

Incorrect.

The recall identifies that the primer and adhesives were, in some cases, applied to the wrong parts, leading to failure.

Because Tesla cannot tell which installs used the incorrect approach, the fix is a mechanical fastening to ensure none of them will fail in the future.

Because Y and 3 exist. Rivian doesn't have an equivalent yet. Are you going to say the Model S was flooding middle class suburbs before the 3 was available? Rivian is hoping to have it's "Model 3 moment," it isn't playing in the same space as the 3/Y, 3 Series, etc. yet.

It is better for every Tesla fan/owner if R2 is a hit. Keep Tesla honest, help drive innovation and make these companies work for our dollars.

2 of the last 3 vehicles I've purchased are Teslas and I have been actively shopping for another one. You can be critical of something and still like it.
Exactly. My wife refuses to drive the same
car as everyone else and alas refuses to buy a Tesla. When her Audi Sportback Etron lease is up she'll probably get the R2. I almost pulled the trigger on the R1T in the end of 2023 when I didn't know when my CT would be delivered.

Besides, CEOs should really stay out of politics.

I firmly believe Rivian isn’t going to be around much longer. They are basically Fisker 2.0.
You are delusional. Fisker sold fewer than 10K cars ever and was never a going concern - they basically went out of business before selling a single Ocean. Rivian has sold like 150K over multiple years and appears to have the capital for a strong production start for the R2. Unless the R2 is a dud, they are in good shape.

As long the country doesn't go into a recession and the $45k R2 RWD pricing stays intact I believe Rivian will be over the hurdle.

I expect R2 configuration e-mails to reservation holders will go out very soon. I believe they have already retooled the IL assembly line in preparation for early 2026 production.

Actually, the loss of the $7,500 federal tax credit may not be a big blow to Rivian -- because 2025 Rivians weren't eligible for it anyway. Their battery sourcing didn't meet the requirements.

So Rivians have been selling without the benefit of the tax break all year long. If you were a potential Rivian customer, there was no incentive to buy before October 1, and there is no disincentive to buy after October 1. No tax break either way.

It's true that Rivians were eligible for the lease credit, so Rivian leases are affected by the loss of the tax break. But not Rivian sales.
Update: Cox has published a brief summary of October 2025 EV sales in the US. As expected, EV sales tanked after the expiration of the tax credit, down by 48.9% from September. Tesla sales did better than average, only falling by 35.3%. But Rivian sales held up even better:
Rivian demonstrated relative resilience with the smallest decline among major manufacturers at just 14.7%.
As indicated before, 2025 Rivians weren't eligible for the tax credit anyway, except on leases. So the expiration of the tax credit was no big deal for them.

they just need to go back to 0% interest, before they eliminate the Luxe package. I just missed it last time, while I was trying to finalize some real-estate transactions. All settled now, and waiting on the 0%.
