I did try it with wi-fi and mobile data turned off and the tonneau and tailgate controls still worked. The reason I wanted to try it away from cell service is because I don't like to jump to conclusions (and I didn't want to spend an hour researching every possibility that could be causing my phone to work in an unexpected manner). Most problems are caused by the jumping to unwarranted conclusions. By making assumptions that are not valid.

In other words, the best way to test something reliably is in the exact same same environment that your test seeks to inform about. It's also possible that Android and Apple phones have different functionality, as is currently the case with auto frunk/trunk open only being available with the Apple app.

I'm fairly confident the tonneau will work without cellular or wi-fi but I don't want to state that as a fact until I've done an unambiguous test, especially with @Cybergirl claiming it doesn't work at all for her. Maybe she has accidently disconnected the Bluetooth antenna or module on her truck? I really can't explain the discrepency at this point in time.
The auto trunk and frunk functionality are provided through UWB Bluetooth, something only in iPhone11 and subsequent. Tesla also uses it to decide which drivers profile to set when multiple phones with profiles are in the car. Maybe it’s used for more features on the CT.

That explains a lot. Thanks.

You're not wrong. Cold and rain makes any camping experience rather miserable unless you camp in fifth wheel trailer or motor home. But the misery can be mitigated.

I set up a 10' x 10' pop up canopy with 3 side walls under which I park the back end of the Cybertruck for shelter from the wind and rain. It's a snap to set up and take down, light weight, and takes up little space in the vault.

When the nights are cold, I use an electric blanket to keep toasty warm. With the canopy overhead, I can open the tonneau without fear of getting wet if bugs aren't a problem. Condensation is avoided with vault ventilation which you need in any case to keep CO2 levels down.

Visiting the loo at 3 am is not an inconvenience exclusive to sleeping in the Cybertruck. I bring a Ann Katy fold up portable toilet and a quantity of powder to turn pee solid and kill any odors. Works great! No need to venture out in the cold or rain in the middle of the night.

The advantages to sleeping in the vault are many:

1) I'm off the ground so bugs don't get into my bed.
2) Activating Tent Mode will level the vault on a sloped campsite.
3) I'm enclosed in a structure safe from man, beast, and natural forces.
4) I have 120Vac power outlets to operate an electric blanket, exhaust fan, or air conditioner.
5) The 55 cu ft vault space is easy to cool in the hottest weather (200 watts will do).
6) Adjustable soft interior lighting to read by.
7) On the road, and off, the vault is big enough to carry all my camping gear, out of sight, and not affecting driving range.

Of course, I could bring along a tent to set up and sleep in, but what advantages would that give me?
Would you post a link or brand of the canopy and side walls you use? I have an old, old, canopy and it's not very easy to set up. Thanks.

Joyrally Non Inflatable Truck... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D48ZGLJG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I used this until someone came out with the inflatable one. I sleep in the other direction (head behind pax seat) and have a drivers profile that I named “Camp Mode” that runs the driver’s seat forward and tilts it forward, giving me room to stretch out diagonally.
Did you get the inflatable one from Teslaunch? I've been debating that one but don't like that they attached the pillow to the new design. How tall are you? I'm 5'6" and sleep on my back and need to stretch out. Wondering if I'd be able to do that diagonally as you do.

Would folding the back seat up and using a mat be more comfortable?
Not for me, I’d feel I was in a hole and it would be more laterally confining (even if I took the underseat storage out but camping is when I need that the most).

Yes. I agree about the pillow being unnecessary and detracts from the usable space but thankfully it uses a separate chamber so I keep it deflated and let it hang down between the seat and the door where it functions quite well as a dust/dirt flap. If you’re 5’6” you’ll be quite comfortable diagonally. IMO, it beats the hell out of sleeping in the truck bed. I’ve done it in hot weather as well as in a blizzard. Totally comfortable all night.

Thank you for that feedback, I'm considering getting one, as well as their side windows covers. The only downside is I camp with a pretty large Dometic frig which sits on the floor behind the drivers seat: I'd have to put it in the bed instead, which, not having climate control, means it's working harder to keep food cold. And I will have to hope the latest iteration of tonneau cover leak-proofing has worked.

I have the window blackout curtains and put a thin opaque cloth between the roof Sun shade and the glass as needed to block out street lights. I keep my frig/freezer in the truck bed and don’t worry about little tonneau leaks. Works great!
